I doubt cxxxxxe 10w30 are make up of II or II+ probably a mixture of I/II as this II+ base stocks are currently in very short supply outside USA.

To meet the current API SM, a heavy dose of group II+ is a must to meet the oxidation & sequence IIIG limits.

The 5W40 "Fully Synthetic" likely to use group III+IV basestock and 10W30 likely to use Group II or II+ basestock.

Why 10W30 has higher flashpoint than 5W40?

It will be better to have more additives and good basestock right.

But can only choose one...SL or SM...which one should I choose for my style of driving, 50% highway and 50% city?

Thanks for ur free lesson learnt something new already , one more question why the slower the oirl flow will enhance the start up and FC ? [sweatdrop]

Most likely due to VII. The viscosity spread is quite big. This oil is known to shear down to 30wt for the SJ version. The SL looks OK from recent reports.

I think the cxxxxxe 10W30 might yield much surprises. Firstly it is cheaper and it isn't even on sale to sell at 26.99 laugh.gif.

Depends. SM good basestock, SL is loaded with more additives. Your call. Both are good but there are some SM oil out there that are basically the same as their SL versions which means they do pack a good additive punch.

Use only 4oz lah! Won't pour down whole bottle. Making Molabrew after the an initial run. Got 3X bottles of cxxxxxe 5W30 sitting at home. I'll discount using the cxxxxxe 10W30. It looks pretty strong for a dino oil rated at SL.

(edited)

Its faster oil flow not slower. The car's system cannot measure oil flow. Instead it measures it indirectly with oil pressure. Now here is the problem. High oil pressure might not mean high oil flow. dizzy.gif

So those people tell you throw in 20W50 and see the oil pressure gauge shoot up say oil very good is looking at oil pressure only and not necessarily high oil flow. You throw in a 10W30, oil pressure of course will drop but that doesn't mean there is lower oil flow.

It is all about component drag. Faster flowing oil contributes to lower component drag.

This is good news for the consumers.

Why pay more if we can buy at cheaper price for equally good products.

You wait. If the 10W30 or 5W30 takes off well here. I believe the 20W50 will confirm become dinosaur. By then we can get cheaper but stronger 30wt oils. BTW, in the USA, 10W30 is going to become dinosaur already. The new 5W30 are as strong as the 10W30 and flows faster. Maybe 5yrs time, the 5W30 will become dinosaurs and the 5W20 takes over. By then the 5W20 might become the final product of PCMO evolution!

[reply]First up! Castrol SLX Longtec 0W30 versus cxxxxxe Triple R Longlife 0W30

SLX Longtec 0W30

V@40 is 72

V@100 is 12.2

Flashpoint is 236C

TBN is unknown but I believe it should be 12.

Cost is 78/4L plus other freebies like camping chair if you bargain hard at Forklift.

cxxxxxe Triple R Longlife 0W30

V40 is 70.0

V100 is 12.0

Flashpoint is 205C

TBN is 11.2

Cost is 79.90/5L and might get free shampoo

How about include redline into this range to compare? [hur]

Redline's price will be way beyond these. We are comparing with same grade with roughly same price.

But redline cost about $84 for 4 quartz (3.78L). I would say it is about there but might not be suitable for those who need more that.

Compare that with SLX Longtech, SLX wins easily and also with a better track record. However, Redline's heavy gear lubes together with RP's are undisputed.
