Question about power

Guys, question here. I'm driving a 2 yrs old Chevy Aveo HB (manual). I have a question which is bugging me for long but did not bother to find out till now [:/]

To me, the pick up of my car when revved to 3 or 4K rpm is not that bad until I engaged the 3rd gear. On 3rd, the pick up seems to be leisurely, ie. does not accelerate like all the other gears (including 4th and 5th). How can I overcome this?

I don't race my car with others or speed unnecessarily. My reason for wanting to pick up fast is only when I want to do a last minute overtaking/turn at traffic lights [:p] Other than that, I drive 'normally'.

So, I just want to find out how to improve my car's acceleration on 3rd gear. I've done no mods and the only thing I've fixed under bonnet is Z-stab, performance is a bit better but not much to harp on. Appreciate your help [thumbsup] .

Most car's torque curve is such that it peaks at 4-5k rpm region, beyond that the engine would be out of breath.

Your 3rd gear could be slightly taller, and you shifted into it at the low end of the speed range, hence the engine struggles to pick up.

For quick acceleration/overtaking, you can actually downshift to 2nd to get the power you need.

If I do an open pod setup, will it help at all? I'm not that sure about what it can do, so just asking here. Anyway, shifting to downgear (2nd gear) is not what I want. I know I can do that but the real issue for me here is the leisurely acceleration on 3rd and as mentioned, I will rev up to 4k rpm to do this. Normally, I will maintain 2.5k to 3k rpm only, when picking up speed or cruising. I want to see my options to improve this.
