I went to see the Latio at Ubi today. The interior is very impresive & spacious. The rear is more spacious than the G9 Corolla, no kidding. Even with the front seats pushed all the way back, a 1.8m tall person still has loads of leg room!

I got the following freebies :

1) Solar Film

2) $300 cash (from SE own pocket)

3) Sports Rims

4) Locally fitted leather seats for 4AT (CVT Premium comes with factory fitted leather)

Now my headache is whether I shd get the 4 speed auto or CVT?

Prices are as follows (for Dynamics version with body kit, and after $2,000 insurance and loan discount & $1,000 additional discount = Total $3,00 discount) :

4 sp auto

- $54,000

- 2006 Yr of Manufacture

- Leather seats and sports rims free

CVT Premium

- $54,500

- 2005 Yr of Manufacture (hence the extra $3K discount, on top of $2,000 insurance, loan and $1,000 additional discoutn stated above = total $6,000 discount)

- Comes with factory fitted leather seats & sports rims

If I do not want body kit, just deduct S$500 off prices above.

Tan Chong is not charging me any dealer commission for scraping of my car paper value. [thumbsup]

What is your opinion of 4 sp auto and CVT?

Is CVT problematic?

Is CVT more economical than 4 sp auto?

Which is a better buy?

* CVT Premium OMV is S$1000+ more than 4 sp auto.

* I heard that first batch YOM 2005 CVT got problem, is it true?

Thank you [flowerface]

Hi VIT4WD, I have extracted the article below which I obtained from a foreign motoring magazine that explains the difference/s between CVT & normal auto.

"Why use a CVT rather than a conventional automatic or manual transmission? The answer is efficiency; engine efficiency. With a CVT, the engine goes from an idle to a pre-programmed rpm immediately so the engine input is constant, and the transmission varies the output speed for smooth, seamless acceleration. Keeping the engine at a constant rpm allows the engineers to optimise ignition timing, camshaft design, and manifold tuning for excellent volumetric efficiency and low emissions.

Other reasons for using CVT's include simplicity of design, and smooth power application to the ground. The simplicity part comes by using fewer parts. Vehicles with reverse gear obviously have more parts than a simple forward drive, but there are still fewer parts and gears to manufacture.

The smooth power application of CVT's is useful in off-road vehicles. Power can be applied without any jerks or surges that could cause the vehicle to lose traction on steep climbs or loose terrain."

I hope that the above info will be of some help in enabling you to decide whether to go for CVT or normal auto.

One downside of CVT is the maintenance cost in case the steel belt inside spolit. Having said that, Nissan has a very long history of using CVT trans on various types of engines. It goes as high as 3.5L Murano so the technology is quite mature.

Wow. This price is just a little higher than when the COE was 9k. It's quite a good deal, esp with bodykit.

For CVT or auto, test drive both to see which one you prefer. By statistics, both auto and CVT FC are about the same. Some people did complain about CVT rubber-band effect, where flooring the pedals doesn't give the desired acceleration. For the 4AT, the gear change is hardly noticeable too, need to look at the RPM to know.

For the YOM 2005 premium, it means it has been sitting at the docks for at least 8 or 9 months, you sure you still want it? With the rubber seals baking under the sun, battery used for 9 months, and engine not started for so long. Check the Latio forums for problems reported in the YOM 2005 batch.

CVT shift is smoother, hardle noticeable. But the CVT is diff from '01 Lancer GDi CVT.

The rpm in Latio CVT goes up and down when I accelerate, but Lancer CVT rpm just keeps slowing going up.

RPM for Latio CVT is a low 1800rpm at 70km/h. I did not notice Latio 4AT rpm.

choose CVT. worth it . my cvt latio hit 17.7km/l when i pump my tank last week.

btw CVT rpm hit 2k when constant speed at 100km. i tink cons will be slower pick up( AT user claim to have fast pick up) however specs claim 0-100km for 12.3s for both AT and CVT. maybe psychological effect.

A 1.8m person with space to spare? That's surprising considering the fact that the sunny is hopeless in rear legroom space.

try it to believe, Im also surprised by those leg space [thumbsup]
