Handphone operate similarly on radio frequencies in the range of 900MHz, 1800MHz and 1900MHz, A tri-band hp are tuned to received all 3 bands. Theoretically, if the radar gun is transmitting on these spot frequencies, yes, there should be some reception/noise/interference on your phones. However, phones are all tuned explicitly to these spot frequencies only. Radar guns usually employ RF in the X/K band high frequencies. Your hp will never be able to detect radar guns.

Is it illegal to install one?

Always remember this:

DO WHATEVER YOU LIKE AND DON"T GET CAUGHT

First of all, we must know what radar technology use on traffic police radar speed detectors

AS long find the root, then source for such radar signal detectors loh. [rolleyes]

Hmm i thought they had like certain detecting radius? Prob few kms?

I thought so too until I saw the experiment conducted by Fifth Gear.

There are mainly two types radar and Infra Red(IR). Stationary speed cams are radar type.

Hand held on Overhead Bridge are IR type.

Yes radar type got detecting radius. But not the IR hand-held type.

What I saw on fifth gear is that the installer fix a palm size device(IR receiver) at the front lip of the car where their police on the ground will usually point.

In other words in sg cannot cos they are on the overheadbridge! And in the show they demonstrate u have to react fast enough to brake and slow down. [sweatdrop]

Our TP not dumb dumb. They are on step ahead of u. [:/]

besides, if the cop cant get a reading on ur car speed, all he has to do is to write down ur number and summon u later.

If you were really speeding, i think it's quite hard to jot down the number plate.

But then again if they manage to get it, you're fuk'ed. [laugh]
