What are the factors that contribute to higher FC of two different make of cars if both are of similar weight, capacity, specifications and mileage after considering that the same person driving the cars in the same manner?

Engine technology, maintenance, running-in process, worn gaskets etc

Transmission efficiency for e.g. CVT vs conventional auto

Gear ratio, num of gears

Aerodynamic (drag coefficient)

Air con efficiency, differences in ICE etc

Tyre differences, e.g. low rolling resistance tyres

my 2cents..

Thats true lar but for eg if a car is heavier than the other, we can all then understand the reason behind the higher FC of that car of that class rite? But wat if a better tech car's engine is fitted into a model that is not "well engineered", will it churn out better FC assuming again that both cars are of equal or almost equal specifications?

well you have to realise that even a different viscosity engine oil, dirt on the exterior that increases drag, etc makes a difference.

Generally if everything else being exactly equal, a similar engine that has variations designed for fuel economy will have better FC ( a non-FC example would be the SR20DE silvia vs the SR20DET silvia. identical cars, different engines. Do you think the TC version would perform better or the non-TC version).

If both engines are exactly equal but the other FC aspects are different, then the results should be roughly the same regardless of which engine is in which car. A non-FC related example would be the the VQ35DE cefiro/maxima vs the VQ35DE 350z. Same engine, similar weights, but one car was designed for performance and the other comfort. Which do you think handles better and which do you think is more comfy. Even if i swapped the engines around the results would be the same.

Now if you're talking abt different cars with different engines with weight being the only thing equal, then its impossible to compare. To simplyfy this, tell me, do you think an apple tastes better or an orange tastes better? It depends on the variable... which is the person who is eating it.

Its a good question but a bit of a moot point in sg coz we cant change engines. Just focus on your foot (cannot be heavy like mine [laugh] and maintain the engine and bodywork and you should be fine.

Neutral Newbie

depends on the oil n wheels u use.tyre pressure is also vital. driving habits too. if all are the same, then it shoud be manufacturiing problem. care to share more ??
