Garlic 1st Gear January 7, 2007 Share January 7, 2007 Hi guys, Understand that quite a number of you guys here DIY grounding with materials purchased with SLT. Anyone have any idea where can I purchase the lux to connect all the wires together before running another cable from it to the negative battery terminal? Walked around SLT but can't it, is it custom made from some metal shop? Here is a crude illustration that I made, Also, I have gotten several different different response regarding this question, will using equal wire length for all the points result in better results/effectiveness? I have seen some cars with standard length wires for all points and equal number of them having different lengths. Thanks ↡ Advertisement
Elfenstar 3rd Gear January 7, 2007 Share January 7, 2007 Technically the shorter the wire, the lower the resistance, so keep them as short as possible rather than focus on having them the same length. If you can't find a "central hub" try using the standard hole connetors at that end and use a nut bolt to hold them all together. If you want, put that in a small plastic box with holes on opposite ends for the wires to come in and out.
Sbtyong 1st Gear January 12, 2007 Share January 12, 2007 Will DIY works the same as after-market product? The problem with this is, sometimes we dun even feel anything from after-market product after installing, set aside DIY ....
Elfenstar 3rd Gear January 12, 2007 Share January 12, 2007 Its just wire and connector quality here, not rocket science. Infact i think we can go much better (both quality and aesthetics) DIY with grounding kits than any aftermarket pre-made kits.
Garlic 1st Gear January 13, 2007 Author Share January 13, 2007 Yep, I'm planning to make mine own and the materials are readily available in SLT. The price for ready made after market ones are and quality is nothing much to shout about.
Bluecity Neutral Newbie January 15, 2007 Share January 15, 2007 The metal bracket can get from Hardware shops. I used to use those normal steel bracket to ground for my friends car and it still works. Buy about 12 or 13 holes and fold into half. If can friend copper bracket even better. Coz copper better in conductivity than normal metal. Grounding don't actually give effectiveness in terms of vehicle performance and also depend on which of the points werre grounded. Most of the time, it will improved the lighting and the audio sound. Auto gear change may be improve in smoothness (subjective also). From the diagram you drawn is the actual and correct way of doing grounding. Connect all the cables directly to the battery terminal would be more effective than have all to 1 point and put addition cable to connect to the terminal. Hope you enjoy your diy-ing. cheers ↡ Advertisement
