Picanto 3rd Gear January 15, 2007 Share January 15, 2007 If value for $$ is what you are looking for, without doubt the altis makes a good choice. ↡ Advertisement
Glim Neutral Newbie September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 Test drove a few 3-year Altis and Megane. Altis is as noisy as Megane. Handling, turn and braking, I can't find many 1.6 worst than Altis. Drive comfort, Megane bits most sub-1.6 Japs. I just don't have enough faith for non-Japan made Toyota although most Ah Beng and dealers will think otherwise. May 5 cents worth.
Ozkaki 2nd Gear September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 Anyway, have a friend who drive a renault megane 1.6A. Nice and powerful car, good handling but servicing damn chor. He told me 1 year only need to service 1 time (how truth I dunno) but each time the bill cost around 1K. The last time he sent his car in (2.5yr old), was told 2 days can get car liao but ended up 4 days. I ferried him around for that few days, and his total bill more than 1k. your friend clocked high mileage every year? if not, it cannot reach 1k if he do servicing once a year. FYI, I'm into my 6 yrs of driving my Renault. The cost is high only when u do the timing belt change. i believe spares will be more costly than jap, but 1k per service is probably not right. Alfisti168 1st Gear September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 (edited) Its still a good car, a severely underrated car compared to the Altis. And being near the end of its product cycle, expect reliability to be satisfactory as major issues would be ironed out by now. But image-conscious Singaporeans will still look for VW Jetta for sure, thinking that the fuel savings will be helpful in the long run. They will realise everything after a few years. Haha. Here is one of the reviews of the Megane. A very recent one in fact. www.one shift.com/articles/article.php?artid=395&pageid=1 Edited September 17, 2009 by Alfisti168

Water Neutral Newbie September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 Altis is better. Problem with some continental cars... can't withstand the heat. Singapore is hot. Some cars are not made for our region.
