Yaloryalor 5th Gear February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 I have one good friend would like to purchase a mid size MPV. She is considering either to get a Wish or Stream. Both cars are built in Jap and 1.8L. Local pricing for both cars are not much diff. Any bro or sis can comments the pros and cons? In terms of FC, handling, reliability, engine, power, ... etc. Appreciate your advice! ↡ Advertisement

Sgnick 1st Gear February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 (edited) She considering only these 2 MPVs? If so, here is a rather good comparison, at another forum http://motoring.asia1.com.sg/cgi-bin/motor...c;f=13;t=000475 If she willing to consider other MPVs of lower price range, I got another recommendation. Initially I was only looking at Wish and Stream too just like your fren, until someone recommended me the "other" mpv. I got it, and like it alot. Xmark 1st Gear February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 (edited) Bro, Ask ur friend, how many people will sit in the car. If more than 5, then wish may underpower to carry 7 person. If less than 5, try the new corolla fielder. come with 5 seater and with mpv look. Edited February 26, 2007 by Xmark
Sgnick 1st Gear February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 (edited) Have heard this issue before about underpower, but I never got around to asking. When people say an MPV like Wish is underpowered when carrying 7 people (assuming carrying all adults with 1 or 2 fatties thrown in), what exactly do they mean? Does it mean: 1) Car is overloaded and cannot even move off at all? 2) Car cannot go up slope and stalls (eg. multi storey carpark, Genting, etc)? 3) Car pickup no longer as fast as when carrying 1 or 2 pax (eg. 1 or 2 pax 100km in 12 secs, 7 pax 100km in 18 secs)? 4) Need to step on accelerator more and higher RPM to get car to move at acceptable acceration and speed? 5) Something else..... If reply is 1 or 2, then I will agree, car is underpower. But if reply is 3 or 4, isn't that normal, for any car? Which car performs just as well fully loaded compare with 1 pax? Even for F1 car, every litre of petrol you put in or every kg of weight added will affect it's performance on the track that could win or lose a race, so do we then consider F1 cars underpowered? So someone can explain to me this newbie what is underpowered? Thanks Edited February 26, 2007 by Sgnick
Thunder Neutral Newbie February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 Underpower means cannot move off as fast as you would like to. Especially when picking up speed to merge with traffic or overtaking. This is actually not a big problem. The bigger problem is when going up a "long" slope. What happens is that the car in a lower gear will be able to pick up speed. Then at certain speed, it shift up. Upon shifting up, the engine does not have enough power and speed drops resulting in down shift. Then speed picks up again................ Same reason why lorry when going up slope so slow. Because they can only move up at lower gear. Once they shift to higher gear, the speed will drop and they have to down shift. With a powerful engine, it has no problem coping. Those who has gone up Genting will know what I mean.
Sgnick 1st Gear February 26, 2007 Share February 26, 2007 (edited) Thanks. Sounds bad leh if struggle to go up slope. It makes sense to use lower gear to go up slope. Looks like u r a Wish driver yourself from your avatar. So when u go up genting or long slope, instead of using D, did u try using S or B or OD(not sure if Wish have this)? Does that help? Cos some toyota drivers told me that is what they did and they went up genting no problem. Edited February 26, 2007 by Sgnick
Yaloryalor 5th Gear February 27, 2007 Author Share February 27, 2007 I would think a good reason to buy Stream is due to its 5 speed auto over 4 speed auto from Wish. I would think the interior of Stream is nicer too!
Sgnick 1st Gear February 27, 2007 Share February 27, 2007 If price not a concern, I will get Stream over Wish. One important factor for me when choosing MPV is 3rd row seating must be comfy, and stream have a slight edge over wish because of the foot room. The second row seats have a gap at the bottom for the 3rd row passengers to place their feet properly on the floor under the 2nd row seats. If I not wrong wish is not like that. But then both stream and wish 3rd row seats to me still needs improvement, too low, when seated, my knees are bend up at an acute angle not comfy, and cannot let a child sit on my lap properly (I am not very tall btw <1.7m, imagine if taller person sit 3rd row, think his knees touch his chin liao). Zakuii 1st Gear February 27, 2007 Share February 27, 2007 The 5th gear is good for highway cruising. the car dun feel busy at all. But 5th gear weak on acceleration, same for 4th. hope it helps.

Zoom99 Neutral Newbie February 27, 2007 Share February 27, 2007 If I'm not wrong, Wish comes with 60km or 3yrs warranty while Stream comes with 40km warranty only. As yr friend is a lady, maybe you may like to highlight this point. ↡ Advertisement
