Fuel Saving Speed

I thought this would be appropriate since there are so many threads on how best to make your ride as fuel efficient as possible.

For those who wish to skip all the calculations, just scroll all the way down to read the conclusion. It certainly shifted my paradigm on the whole fuel efficiency theory [laugh]

Happy reading!!

i thought the author was trying to be funny [laugh]

i've a vacuum gauge in my car and from the reading, i believe that 60-79km/h is the best speed to obtain good FC

If you read the report, the author's calculations are based on the engine alone and not taking into considerations factors like drag coefficient, rolling resistance, etc.

Its an interesting point to note though, as it does make sense that the government is trying to help you save fuel by limiting the speed to 90km/h [laugh]

moi is not the scientikfic person....

so much so for speed limitations...

watch out!!!!!!!!!!!

Neutral Newbie

My guess is that most cars with a 4 or 5 speed gearbox, will be most fuel efficient up to about 90kph. Cars with a 6 speed or more gearbox will have a slightly higher optimum speed for fuel efficiency.... my .0002cents

Rather just purely on speed, I did an experiment before trying to co-relate

the % where the fuel injectors are opened (through throttle control) versus fuel consumption. (I used Bliz R-vit to read OBD info)

I did observe that when the fuel injectors are opened with a smaller %, I did observe better fuel consumption.

Next, I try to find at which speed where I keep the fuel injectors open at the lowest

% while maintaining the speed.

For my car, I've observed it's +- 80km/h.

This is as much as I can go to prove through experimental observation rather than just purely stating a number.
