Those who were at the Sound Challenge event today will know which car i'm talking about..

I still dunno what those things are and what they are for..

From what i understand, this car has no amps...then i wonder what that extra battery in the boot is for hmmmm...

Here's the link to the photos of that car...

Mods, if you feel this is violating the owner's privacy, you may delete this thread but i'm not gonna mention the car make/model, owner, plate etc....just photos of the internals..

how come u say got no amps?

and for those familiar with what a bass trap actually looks like, is that how a simple bass trap is constructed, just a cylinder? the rear enclosure seems to be ported for those 6+ inches. so did it win?

i wonder whether the judges would LET it win. after all, the competition is meant to promote the industry of MAINSTREAM ice installers, not turn business towards some other product :)

elmo, u certain? really ah, all that is decoration on top of existing amps?

looking at the picture again, the subs now look more like 10" liao.

and the big round cylinder sekali is not bass trap, but a big front port from the dual-15" mounted in the rear passenger entire foot wells ...

And No, it didn't win.

And according to the owner, that cylinder is supposed to be a bass trap.

I'm not sure what components are inside but from what i was told, there is really no amps...how true i dunno la...

But it sure was an eye opener for me :) Never seen a setup quite like that...

I guess it didn't win because there was no TA nor EQ being done..it sounded pretty good but i guess for car audio and home audio, judgin process is different? i dunno...

Hi,

The photos you taken is my friend's car.

I watched the car's sound system being setup.

There is no power subwoofers, no power amps of any type, no expensive branded sound cables, no sound equalizer.

It has only a Panasonic CQ-C9901W head unit. 2 pairs of 6.5 inch component set.

The system is very simple. But I call it real sound.

as it has been commented, based on the system design, it seems apparent that the car owner is a hifi enthusiast. win or not is not important. maybe the judges didn't know how to appreciate it?

but i'm curious. i didn't have the opportunity to listen to the sound. but allow me to ask a question, and if u could, convey it to him? as a hifi enthusiast, how does he envision designing a real sound system, whereby he sits nearer to his right tweeter, which is a bit nearer than his right midbass, which is nearer than his left tweeter, which is nearer than his left midbass, which are all nearer than the 2 speakers behind? would he be having more real sound from his right tweeter and less real sound from the rest?

or are there components not mentioned that negates this problem?

Since you missed the opportunity, I can arrange you to meetup with the owner if you interested to listen to his system.

I believed ears can feel the difference more than words alone.

Nuwa, don't be offended by hyun when he expressed his resevations whether the system can sound good without any amplifiers or processing. Obviously, everone thinks his wife or girlfriend is the most pretty, so there's no basis for comparison [:)]

Hi,

Hyun just made some enquiries thats all. To me it is not offending. In fact it is far from it.

I just feel that by hearing the actual thing is better than typing words of explanation here. If there is anything to clarify regarding the system, it will be better to discuss during a meetup/kopi session.

err, ya, just made some enquiries, thats all. would be great if there's a chance to listen during a meetup/kopi session, but i didn't request it cos i dont see taking up the time of your friend for my own benefit as being fair.

so for convenience's sake i just posted a simple enquiry, using the above example, trying to elicit some discussion. and since the setup seems to stem from a home hifi origin, this fundamental problem of speaker distances would be a good starting point for the discussion. if u know the answer, or can get the answer from your friend, that'll be most generous. if in addition to that, we can even have a listen, that'll be fabulous. if it's a trade secret, i understand that too.

Yes, it is a trade secret so I don't see the point to discuss over here. As we each have our own profession and daily job, we don't really do trading on it. It is not a business venture. Most of the stuffs are DIY and it is cheap. We don't sell them in open market. We did it purely for the passion of quality sound. As a hobby, we believed in using non-expensive method to achieve that. We will only sell and setup the system upon request by our friends.

For those who really interested to know more about this concept, do feel free to PM me your contacts. I can arrange a audition day for those interested. I can get the inventor to explain further during the meetup.

actually I happen to know the ower of the Edix.

I have heard his ICE and have seen his car up close, and here are the things that I can confirm:

1) There are no subs

2) There are no external amps. All speakers are driven directly from HU. No TA, not sure about if there is any EQ set in the HU.

3) There is a set of 2 way components for the front and one more set for the rear. The tweeters are Morels, looks like a variant of the supremo. Not sure about the midbasses.

4) The crossovers are passive, specially made with expensive air-core inductors and Mundorf caps (look like oil caps but I can't be sure). From the looks of it, just the parts for the passive crossovers probably cost more than a set of dynaudio components.

5) The black box at the back is a second battery

6) Cables look like solid-core silver cables but I can't be absolutely sure.

5) All connections are hard-soldered. No connectors, banna-plugs etc

6) There are many tuning devices (cones, grounding cables etc) used.

and finally

7) Yes, it sounds damn good. I would say that it sounds remarkably like a full Naim system. It excels in PRAT and high frequency reproduction
