I have 2 type in mind. 1)Pioneer PRS cheap but harsh 2)Morel Good but expensive Anyone have used both before and like to comment on it? ↡ Advertisement
Dunno Neutral Newbie April 12, 2007 Share April 12, 2007 Really depends on how deep are your pockets
Kwongwing Neutral Newbie April 12, 2007 Share April 12, 2007 Apart from how deep your pockets are - it would ultimately depend what you are seeking in your buying of the new pair of tweeters. Presumably you are trying to get your ICE to sound better - as such your comment on the Pioneer PRS tweeter being harsh already answers your own question in the first place. As for Morel - there are a few models to choose from to suit your budget range. Other than the above, you would also have to consider whether the tweeter you are choosing in fact blends in with your other speaker components in terms of tonality; and also consider the amplifier you have or would be getting to power up the tweeters. P.S. There are loads of other brands you may wish to consider - which I believe other fellow forumers would be able to recommend if you advise with what system you are contemplating matching the tweeters to. Oklor76 Neutral Newbie April 12, 2007 Author Share April 12, 2007 Hi, My System is listed below in my signiture. I am now thinking to just change the tweeter only. Then later then consider to upgrade the amplifier becos I check ard and understand the tweeter is now the bottle neck in my sound system I have not heard of PRS tweeter but so far I heard from a friend that the PRS tweeter is very harsh. Whereas for the morel one, i thinking of getting any second hand ones. And other which you people out there think it a value for money ones. I am very into SQ and soundstaging. Kwongwing Neutral Newbie April 12, 2007 Share April 12, 2007 Come by one of the meetups and listen to the PRS setup for yourself plus other setups. You can then decide what type of sound you prefer and then work from there. Are you running active at the moment?
Oklor76 Neutral Newbie April 12, 2007 Author Share April 12, 2007 Yup, running active at the moment. When the next meetup?next wed?
Spinworkx Clutched April 12, 2007 Share April 12, 2007 Pioneer PRS tweeters are not harsh. They just need a pretty long time to run in. When brand new, they are harse indeed...give them time to run in and they sound really nice. Check with bro Boring...he's using PRS...ran in already and they sound good... In any case, since you're running active, if too harsh, adjust the volume and eq a little lor....but really, the PRS do sound nice and they're not pricey. Oklor76 Neutral Newbie April 12, 2007 Author Share April 12, 2007 The way it seem to make sense more to buy used PRS tweeter:) Any idea how much it cost? Someone told me it SGD200 for the tweeter. I heard you can't buy off the rack, they will install for you. Anyone can verify that?
Ls430 Clutched April 12, 2007 Share April 12, 2007 my own two cent worth speakers are fragile equipment if reputable previous owner OK if not not sure if coil has been replaced or properly run in please saving a few bucks may cause you more headache
Sarong1 1st Gear April 12, 2007 Share April 12, 2007 (edited) I find the PRS sweet and not harsh as opposed to what you have said. Morel is probably in the same league if not for the price. Assess any of your next ICE equipments buy by understanding what genre of music you listen most of the time, not by how wide the genre you listen to. Then, have as many opinions and listen as much as possible with your own CDs on others' setup (regardless of brands) to narrow down your search. We can comment and recommend you many different brands based on our preferences but ultimately, you are going to be the one to spend the money and face the music most of the time. Pls come by the meetups and feel free to listen to as many different setups as possible. I am sure you will be even more certain where your precious money should be invested. Cheers. Slidingturtle Neutral Newbie April 12, 2007 Share April 12, 2007 Yes it is abt that price for a new set (i just got it recently). Not sure if installation is a "must" at the authorised dealers... don't see why it should be. Still running it in, so still a tad harsh for now. That said, the clarity is pretty good, and has a sense of 'airiness', if i can described it that way, that is nice even for now. My only beef is that it is not as sweet as my previous tweeter... perhaps that would change after run in... cheers,
Oklor76 Neutral Newbie April 12, 2007 Author Share April 12, 2007 Thanx for the invite. I guess have to wait till the next wedesday for the meetup.
Oklor76 Neutral Newbie April 12, 2007 Author Share April 12, 2007 I heard from someone installation is a must. But I was thinking that I want to go to my workshop to do the A-pillar so I don't need them to install for me. What was the previous tweeter you using. DId you compare the 5 authorised dealer price? Are they the same price? Or is there any parallel importer for PRS speakers? Thanx
Slidingturtle Neutral Newbie April 13, 2007 Share April 13, 2007 Was using cdt61.. then cube acoustic.. then tweeter spoilt, so change to PRS... Didn't compare price, cos since am used to the current installer, who does a reasonably good job, so just give them do. cheers,

Ractis Neutral Newbie April 20, 2007 Share April 20, 2007 x3 on the PRS not being harsh. In fact it sounded smooth to me. I would take it over the morels, which IMHO are not as value for money.
