ya.. the nite mode and center ignition are some of the key signature of Saab... no matter how it change, it's still hold some of these as heritage..

not too sure about that.. but I'm certain that for the current version, the gear need to be in P or N before it start.. part of the safety feature.. Doesn't make sense for the car to be in any gear during startup.

well i'm not sure about saabs of today.experienced it in the old 900's and 9000's only. i think its more of an anti theft feature.u're supposed to park backside in.if some1 were to steal it they wouldn't be able to disengage the reverse gear wifout the key thus preventing the person from driving off wif the car.i think it was one of saabs quirkeyness back then b4 GM took over.

Neutral Newbie

I think it's a Reverse Gear Ignition Lock.

You will have to engage into reverse gear before you turn off the engine and remove the ignition key (in the centre console).

When you start up the car, you will have to engage into Neutral before starting up the car proper. [sweatdrop]

I believe it's an anti-theft mechanism, to the un-learned thief that is. [:)]

Hi, since someone here asked about saab, I'd like to find out more also.

I have friends interested in 9-3 2.0T, 9-5 LPT 2.0 & 9-3 SportCombi TS Vector.

Which would be a better buy? In terms of power, maintenance, handling?

My friend would like a car with good torque at low revs.

Thanks. [:)]

Is SAAB in good finanical state? You mean it is a GM company now?

Regards,

You can do a search on the net on SAAB being part of GM. They have been in the GM family for a number of years. Their engine, ECOTEC 2 is a variant of Opel's ECOTEC.

Last I read, the financial state was not too great, GM at one point wanted to sell away SAAB, one of the main reason is there are very few models in the line up.

Saab like Citroen is for individualist but the Saab today are starting to lose a little Saabish feel compare to the yester year 900. I will pick a C6 if compare to a 9-5. In fact, I like Saab but i just prefer the old 900S Turbo.

I heard that Volvo is quite expensive to maintain, a normal servicing will cost abt $2k i heard. Since Saab is from same country, it might be not cheap to maintain too.

I just had my routine service today, engine oil change+auto oil change+donno what O ring+blar blar blar+labor only $510 w/GST [sly]

Major service will cost $800-1,000 but agree that spare parts is rather ex. [dead] Late last yr I change a pair of drive shaft cost me 3k ++ (mine is S60 T5)

Hello all, I just got online. Not surprising I made it to this thread as like Saabretooth, I drive a Saab. one of their latest model the 93 SportsCombi. Got it last year and still coming to terms with it to be honest.

Previous car was a Saab 95 saloon which was a lemon which made me give up on it when it came five years old. Before this was also another Saab 95 saloon and that baby was a beaut. Served me well and we share many happy moments blasting around those long and winding east coast coastal roads.

Well take care fellas, and happy safe motoring.
