Orixy 2nd Gear May 11, 2007 Share May 11, 2007 rubber is expendable just use wat is adequate and within budget see some zhnged matrix and getz put funny stuff like parada spec 2 dunno for wat try to proof their pathetic engine can outperform a ferrari Hmm... i dont drive a matrix but i dont see a problem when one chooses to use good tyres...even if it is expensive and probably overkill, its still one of the best item you can buy for your car to save your own live... ↡ Advertisement

Suxelis Neutral Newbie May 11, 2007 Share May 11, 2007 Really. PP2 outperforms T1R? That is sth new to me! hahah. How can it be so? Yeah my guess is that they might have inflated the tyres to too high a pressure. Am very confused about the conflicting performance reports coming in about the T1R. Wheels May 2006 did a good test of these tires. According to their results, PP2, though not the winner, blew T1-R into the weeds. A year later I changed to PP2 and yes, its very impressive. The Wheels test did not include noise. my own impression is PP2 has a little whine below 20km/h, but otherwise quieter than BS GR80, which was replaced by my PP2's at 15k. In terms of performance its streets ahead of GR80. I also tried the T1-R. Much noiser than PP2 or GR80 but performance better than GR 80. Only negative for me of the PP2 is the price. And yes, fancy V treads may not perform better than something that looks boring like the PP2.

Jamesgetz 4th Gear May 11, 2007 Share May 11, 2007 (edited) toyo T-1R is very good... for drifting. official tires for F&F: Tokyo Drift jokes aside, i've heard many users to find the tire to be an average performer and overpriced. i think toyo should have spent less $$$ in advertising/promotion and more on its tires R&D and quality even if PP2 just matches T-1R, it's still quite bad since PP2 is supposed to be a luxury-performance tire while T-1R is suppposed to be a UHP performance tire Edited May 11, 2007 by Jamesgetz
Orixy 2nd Gear May 11, 2007 Share May 11, 2007 dont understand how come ppl find the T1R overpriced when it cost only $90-$100 for a jap-made 195/55/R15? for comparison, the bridegstone GIII cost around $120-130 per pcs and its performance isnt anywhere better than the T1R leh... Hmm......

Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear May 11, 2007 Share May 11, 2007 (edited) We've gone thru that study. Think you've missed previous discussions. The study is suspect at best. They're different, no way PP2 better than T1R in terms of handling. Anyway, I guess it's "fashionable" in certain forums to bash Toyo's. Oh well, to each his own. Having driven the life out of several street tyres, including Sports Maxx and AD07, I'm happy with T1R with its balanced approach to dry, wet and handling/comfort. But for luxury sedans like E Class, my choice will be PP2 and CPC2. I prefer CPC2. Edited May 11, 2007 by Vblaster_w211

But I have to say that the PP2 tread design is plain boring! hahah . . . Anyway, may I ask the car and tyre size when you tried the PP2, Gr80 and T1R? Fff0 Neutral Newbie May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 Damn, have both front fellowby rear skid while taking a corner on wet. Clear the corner so many times wif my Falken 512 at a even higher speed and so far the worst only get a front skid on wet........ T1R really let me down Hmm... when one skid at corner, it got to do with a lot of factor like turning angle, road wetness or any oily surface, braking, car handling ability, etc... I seriously doubt a 512 will outclass T1R...... IMO
Suxelis Neutral Newbie May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 Various cars. 225/50/17, 235/45/17, 225/45/17, 215/45/17. Agree PP2 tread design boring. BTW test I refered to is the Australian Wheels mag, not local one. I know PP2 is not directional but rather its assymetric, though its performance seem to compare well with some directionals. I should add I also used RE050 too. Personally my favorite is Mich PS2. Amazingly its also the quietest of the whole bunch on the AYE, quieter than PP2. Go figure... Ferrari7 Neutral Newbie May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 Yeah many others have spoken well of the PS2. But. $$ no enough!
Suxelis Neutral Newbie May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 Same thoughts here too. But there are plenty of good tires in the market that is maybe 75% of a PS2 in performance but at 50% price. For example, I have been very impressed by some of the Korean Brands. I am wondering if they changed name they might be able to command better prices! Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear May 12, 2007 Share May 12, 2007 (edited) It IS that wheels review that was in question. As for local reviews, I don't even call them that, given the standards of local tyre review journalism. Bridgestone is another good choice. RE01? As for comfort, I'll recommend CPC2. Suxelis Neutral Newbie May 13, 2007 Share May 13, 2007 i See. Anyway I will keep CPC2 in mind for next time.

Icetrap 2nd Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 I agree with you. The local car mag are all too docile and tactful! If you watched Top gear you will laugh when they review the cars. Btw bro, have you ever tried R1-R. Seems like very few brothers know about this tyre down here. ↡ Advertisement
