Would like to get some info on the Mazda 323 series...1.3, 1.6 (Protege). Info regarding perfromance, fuel efficiency, accessories...maintenance...etc. etc

Hello Kardachia,

 

Me currently driving a Mazda 1.3 M. Like to share some info with you. Bascially i would recomend you to buy the 1.6L. Its performance is much better, smoother transmission on the Auto gear. I not saying 1.3L is not good but more worth your $$$ as prices have dropped drasticaly compare to my time where i bought at 2001 Aug. Its 1.3L(m) compare to other 1.4L around. Its powerful in its range, and if you upgrade your sprak cables and air filter. The difference is there for sure, add couple of Magnets, Fuel efficieny is there.

I drive the 1.3 manual.. quite underpowered but can settle it with some mods. Fuel efficiency is excellent. Can get 15km/l. It is also nicely reliable but the engine is buzzy.

Thank you, thank you all for your valuable inputs....

 

The conclusion I draw from all your response would be that the 1.3L is a bit buzzy (draggy) but with mods should overcome the problem and also fuel efficiency is good. FOr value for money, should go for the 1.6L as it would be much smoother and stable than the 1.3L.

right on. exactly how i feel when i test driven mazda 323 six months ago. overall exterior image is about the same. but the 1.6 engine is sluggish and more noisy when compared to a 1.6. interior wish, can see that the 1.6 is better furnished, with centre hand rest, airbags etc. 1.3 looks a bit more plastic. besides, 1.6 got more freebies.
