San_e_fen_ming Neutral Newbie June 24, 2007 Share June 24, 2007 Hi all, can any good souls who had currently/previously installed a aftermarket crank pulley (summit, RPM, etc, lightweight type)give some feedbacks? E.g: will it wrap after a period of using? Thanks. ↡ Advertisement

Dwoon 1st Gear June 24, 2007 Share June 24, 2007 It will not warp.... But I heard that because of its sharper edges.... it might shorten the life of the belt. Anyway, I went ahead with it..... if the belt breaks, at least its not the timing belt and replacing it is much, much cheaper too.
Fabulous Neutral Newbie June 25, 2007 Share June 25, 2007 So far RPM with the rubber damper has good review, as the damper absorb the shock, but don't know how long it can last? I had change mine to Maximum Velocity Light weight Crank Pulley, started giving problem after 18 months of usage .. the belt cracked and 1 groove is totally gone.. spend about $90 to get it replace at workshop... will monitor again... Thug Clutched June 27, 2007 Share June 27, 2007 bro, dun do it less likly to feel any gain...and as time goes by...there is this bird chirping sound coming from it... the sound make ur car sound old...so...i say dun do it...stick wif stock... Thug Clutched June 27, 2007 Share June 27, 2007 aftermarket crank pulley wif hamonic damper tends to last shorter than stock...yet without the damper chirping sound can be heard...hence my stand is dun change at all...how i know? I'm using MV crank pulley right now and changing back to stock...
Thug Clutched June 27, 2007 Share June 27, 2007 eh...dun know how to explain lei.... The crank(shaft) pulley is the biggest pulley in front of the motor. It's at the very bottom of the motor. If you take off all your belts and turn your car on, it'll be the only pulley that's moving.
Dwoon 1st Gear June 27, 2007 Share June 27, 2007 (edited) I'm also on MV crank pulley (got it as a used one). So far, after wacking upto Genting/KL & back at speeds upto 220km/h... no issues. No chirping (chirping was there when i was on stock pulley but after doing belts changes, sound went away. most likely due to worn belt rather than the pulley itself). Although i've only travelled about 8K kms so far on it with my wacking it upto 200km/h every other day, no problems..... well... there was abit of a problem intially as it allowed boost to build faster and cause a spike past the safety setting.... solved that already (tuner set the threshold 0.05 bar higher to avoid boost cut.) Thug Clutched June 28, 2007 Share June 28, 2007 Din't change my belt though. But it definately not worth if u going for performance. Can't feel much gains. Maybe got to change the alternator, air-con and power steering pulleys... Together wif lightening flywheel...then can feel the full potential of it... Dafansu Turbocharged June 28, 2007 Share June 28, 2007 i'm using purrin brand for my vios, not much difference, i advised u to stay stock instead
Dwoon 1st Gear June 28, 2007 Share June 28, 2007 The lightened carnk pulley won't give you much gains.... very minimal at the most. But what it does is to give you better response across the rev range.

Qr25vet Clutched June 30, 2007 Share June 30, 2007 but will it affect the charging system? as most pulleys are "underdrive" which means smaller than stock...

Dwoon 1st Gear July 3, 2007 Share July 3, 2007 Yes, alot of them are under-driven size crank pulleys. My advise is to get those which are same size as stock.... just that they are lightened by using aluminium alloy. But do note.... it doesn't really give you more output..... just that it improves the response. (the effect like driving with one or 2 people less). Crusader75 Neutral Newbie July 9, 2007 Share July 9, 2007 I'm using those stock sized crank pulley from Cobbs Tuning. It is very light when compared to my stock pulley. Can feel that the car accelerates more readily and respond better but no change in terms of fuel saving... ↡ Advertisement
