  2. Hi all Hi i am thinking of changing to a light weight crank pulley. Does it help on improving the car performance ? Roughly how much does it cost ?? Thanks .
  3. Hi all, Im driving a Apr 06 1.8manual civic FD1. I went to do my 70k servicing at Spark Car Care at Braddell on 29mar tuesday. They said there's a minor leak at the bottom of my Crank Shaft Oil Seal & it will cost $214 & about 5-6 hrs to repair/replace. The service advisor say it usually happens when the car reaches around 100k or >100k is is fair or normal to charge $214 for Crank Shaft Oil Seal minor leak to repair/replace? Any cheaper & reliable workshop to repair/replace? tks for all your help
  4. A lightened crank pulley is a common and relatively inexpensive modification that is commonly used to extract promised power of about 5-10. However, the risks that lie with doing such a mod when the end product is poorly constructed/engineered can be significant. Sharing a link where Steve Dinan from Dinan BMW writes in detail on such risks. http://www.dinancars.com/bmw/technial-info...harmonic-damper Leave no doubts of the engineering behind the crank pulley you are about the purchase as the long term health of your engine may suffer if the inferior product is poorly balanced.
  5. Which brand of crank pulley to change? And which workshop to go? What are the pros and cons? Expert advice pls.
  6. Any idea which workshop carry this stuff???
  7. As above.. And yes, i'm also looking @ RPM LIGHT WEIGHT PULLEY
  8. Hi all I am about to book and change the crank pulley to a lighten aluminium 7075 one now. Many ppl say that a ride will feel more responsive. Jus wan to confirm this before I place my order. Thanks jemjem
  9. Crank pulleys, attached to the outside of the crankshaft, are the source of power for a car's accessories. The alternator, power steering, water pump, and air conditioner are all belt driven units, attached to the crank pulley, that use horsepower from an engine to provide their own services. Underdrive pulley systems increase an engine's horsepower by reducing the power required to drive the external engine accessories. By replacing factory pulleys with carefully resized units, the accessories are slowed enough so that their performance does not suffer, but just enough so that more horsepower is sent to the wheels and put to the ground. Where horsepower should be! Normally, underdrive pulleys will increase engine output by 8 to 15 horsepower, with even better power levels yielded from turbo models than seen in normally aspirated engines! This increase results in quarter-mile time improvements of .2 to .25 seconds, easily making this modification one of the best "bang for your buck" modifications for any sport compact car. Another great benefit in replacing factory pulleys with underdrive units is reduced weight. Factory units, also referred to as OEM, are generally constructed from steel or cast iron. Resized pulley systems are constructed of aircraft quality aluminum, making them extremely durable while at the same time much lighter than their steel counterparts. This increased weight reduction results in less rotating mass on the engine's crankshaft which drastically increases the engine's ability to rev up to speed faster. Better throttle response = big grin on a driver's face! Considering our Starlets that are already having superior power to weight ratio advantage.... What say you, bros? Increased weight reduction Increased horsepower Lower ET's & higher trap speeds
  10. Hi all, can any good souls who had currently/previously installed a aftermarket crank pulley (summit, RPM, etc, lightweight type)give some feedbacks? E.g: will it wrap after a period of using? Thanks.

  12. All V8s have 4 crank pins and cross plane V8s' crank pins are separated by 90 degree angle from the other. Question... does it mean that all crank pins will be separated by the formula below... 360 (degree ie. one full circle) / No. of crank pins ??? That means inline 6 crank pins are separated by 60 degrees from the other... Please enlighten
  13. Stupid me. I left my engine idling when I was waiting for my wife last night. Unaware that the engine is idling, I crank it again. A high pitch noise came from the engine, similar to the sound of metal scratching again each other. Wondering what harm I have done to my ride? Do I need to bring it in for a checkup? If there is anything wrong, how can I tell?
  14. My frenz ride yester unable to start...been having this symptom of cranking sound..but difficult to start. Is this symptom of the starter..or maybe battery? Thks for help.
  15. Anyone tried it ? At $260 (after 10% discount), it's really tempting ! Problem is, it seems that McWell OEM from some unknown source (Maximum Velocity is McWell's brand), so trustable ? http://www.onemotoring.com.sg/publish/onem...engine_oil.html

  17. Hi, I am co-ordinating a grp purchase for lightened aluminium crank pulley for various models including Vios, Corolla G9, Altis, RAV 4, Lancer, Impreza, etc. Pls see this link for pics: http://photobucket.com/albums/y112/dfcp2000/ As various makes are involved, the savings are quite substantial - we need at least 5 of each make to enjoy the price of S$180 w/install (installation in proper workshop) or S$160 cash&carry. Please note that this crank pulley is pecision machined aluminium (made in Taiwan) that is 50% the weight of the orig. pulley. These pulleys belong to the same brands as those supplied to local workshops. Pls indicate yr participation below: Nick / Contact / Model 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Please note that this is a one-time bulk buy as I am only helping myself and my friends, so that we can all benefit. Thanks.
