I was attracted by the SLA/Mapking maps also.. but not very useful in Malaysia.. Lot of places not inside..

But I think the advantage of Holux is that it is more user friendly..

I realised my Holux 53C was not holding its charge. The batt meter wont show more than 3 bars even when fully charged and will go flat in 15mins once disconnected from power source. It used to be able to function 2-3hrs on its own power last time.

I called Eastgear and they gave me a solution:

1) Disconnect unit from power source

2) Exit from GPS mode to the mode where you can alter settings (where you can see batt meter)

3) Turn off the unit by pressing on the power button for 3 secs

4) Then reconnect the charging cable

Tried it and seemed to work. Just in case it happens to your unit too.

Garmin is not without glitches anywayz...and you have to be rather techno savvy to play around with it. I'm not one for crying out loud and I find the search function (in Garmin) quite unhelpful at times (my very own shallow opinion only...die-hard garmin supporters plse dun whack me) [flowerface]

[laugh]

Can I wack u.... pleeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz? [smash][smash][laugh][laugh]

My malsing map is outdated (June 2007)...and I dunno how to contirbute, that's why I took the shortcut and "contributed" to Eastgear instead [:p]

Holux's search is easier cos can search via postal code and they have regular updates via email. I'm switching between the 2 but mostly still using Garmin.

Onething I find is that Garmin and Holux will plan different routes to same destination, i.e., Garmin one route but if u use Holux, the route is different. Then in Holux itself, the SLA map is one route and if u select malsing map, the route is different again although same destination [flowerface]

Not complaining lah...just my idiotic observation nia nia [flowerface]

So being the users of the two top brands in SG, which route is better for same destination and which is better in terms of functionality wise [cool]

Okay I give an example...

I was on Hampshire rd and my next destination is Autobacs. Garmin says turn right (Kampong Java) then Thomson rd and then turn left onto Whitley rd and then PIE...

Holux says turn left from Hampshire rd onto Kampong Java, then turn right onto Bkt Timah then PIE, etc...

And bcos I left both GPS sets in my car (white elephant somewhat) and hence it's always cold start, if I need to get out of a place fast fast I'll use Garmin cos the logon is faster (in my humble opinion nia nia) and if I need to travel on roads which I knew got changes bcos of road widening or roadworks, diversions, I use the Holux cos the maps are updated [nod]
