go for dental scaling by the vet, stop feeding wet food, or u can try Proden PlaqueOff, i haven't tried it myself, but heard some good reviews for it.

but i find the smell is on the hair around it mouth, is a shizzu puppy i think.

its the dog's tears. and trim off the hair above the muzzle between the eyes. the smell comes from all the tears accumulated there.

some may not believe that tears got smell, but take it from someone that owns a shih tzu before. [flowerface]

I own a shih tzu - congrats to u, hope u take good care of it carefully and not abandon him because of problems like that....

Firstly, U need to go to the vet and give him a thorough check up to ensure that he has no complication in his everything including teeth and digestive system, also give him the vac. If its the teeth, you need not ask the vet to do the cleaning as long as his teeth is not decayed (anyway, if he is still young, his teeth will drop and change), u can bring him to some groomers who do the cleaning, its much cheaper than the vets. I brot mine to groomer for that, very good [thumbsup] PM me and i can give u a recommendation if u interested (of cos i have no share from them lah [laugh] ).

U also can change his diet if u think that the food he is taking now is no good, since he is still young, kibbles (beware of what dry food u give him as well - cheaper ones are of inferior quality that may create other problems) is best but i think if u love him and wants better things for him, i also can rec u what mine is eating... mine has the same tearing problem but surprisingly, he outgrown the problem after i gave him what he eats now...i bring him to vet without fail every year and his digestive system and coating/fur and everything very ok, not fat either...and he is coming to 5.

As for smell, well i believe it can be from many reasons.... afterall they are dogs. u may want to see how his skin cond is... some shih tzu prone to have skin problem, of cos, its a matter of food and taking care most of the time. i suggest u monitor his food and make sure he is not sensitive to certain meat (remember not to give him grapes, chocolate and milk - its disastrous to some dogs!). Do contact me if interested, I can share my experience with u my wonderful time with my favorite canine. [thumbsup]
