Jhoo Neutral Newbie December 4, 2007 Share December 4, 2007 This is bad news for garmin users? http://www.malsingmaps.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=4137 So much hype about garmin and I've just got mine from PW for less than a week, real @ss luck... hopefully this will not contribute to garmins price erosion ... ↡ Advertisement

Xefera 6th Gear December 4, 2007 Share December 4, 2007 (edited) Its not about free maps. If you have read the questions raised by antyong, you will know that the issue is not about free maps, but the spirit of sharing that helps unite and grow the community at MSM. Now the spirit has been dented by some kukunut Edited December 4, 2007 by Xefera
Slowmo Clutched December 4, 2007 Share December 4, 2007 i believe its about locking free maps. anyway, I don't rely on a provider who suka suka change terms, last time free, now must contribute, then later password. Sorry, I don't have time for these nonsense. I will use whatever is available and most affordable. If you like to do the secret handshake before you get a map thingy, go ahead. If need be, I prefer to rely on physical maps, no need to complain so much.
Kb27 Supersonic December 4, 2007 Share December 4, 2007 It's about free maps. I have not thought of buying a gps receiver until I heard about malsingmaps which is free (initially). Bcoz it was free, many are steered towards a particular brand which is Garmin. Now, they start putting hoops and hurdles you have to jump through to get the map. In spite of this, I think many are willing to pay for the "spirit" but still they want you to jump the hoops. Oh well, we'll see how it goes. Might as well just pay for commercial maps and forget about malsingmaps.
Elfenstar 3rd Gear December 4, 2007 Share December 4, 2007 (edited) The terms changed because a lot of unscrupulous people out there included/sold these maps at costs to their customers. The changes were to reduce that happenning. The sing in malsing is fine, but the mal maps where the roads change almost as often as we change our underwear is impt. These updated maps are way better than any commercially available ones. Also good luck finding a street directory for KL thats up to date I have a feeling its a conspiracy with the govt there because as soon as a new street directory comes out, at least a few of the one way roads will change directions Edit: hehehe... didnt realise it was you cal Edited December 4, 2007 by Elfenstar
Solar Turbocharged December 4, 2007 Share December 4, 2007 (edited) heard that some kuku 'enterprising' users copied and sell their maps. locking it up to a few 'trusted' and 'contributing' users would help to safeguard it.. well i won't say this method is wrong, but its sure going to turn off a lot of people.. to an extent its so exclusive that one day they may have to open up again. for me, i've stopped visiting this site.. gone back to use mapking.. btw, they just released a free update in nov07 http://www.mapking.com.sg/ Edited December 4, 2007 by Solar
Slowmo Clutched December 4, 2007 Share December 4, 2007 probably i didnt go to malaysia enough to depend on it, and also I don't think those who go there reguarly will need the gps.. I think it's just too much hassle. Anyway, I will be using tomtom for the very near future.
Elfenstar 3rd Gear December 4, 2007 Share December 4, 2007 now with this out, looks like i got to start looking for a good set of maps for KL.... Btw, if you're using tomtom, it has pretty good maps for aust.
