My bottom molar (the last tooth at the rear) is painful. The tooth had a crown but do not hae root canal done. I am given 3 choices by my dentist but I need some help here. 1. Extract the tooth and forget about it. 2. Extract the tooth and 4 months later do implant (cost S$4K of which S$1.5k can claim CPF and the balance in cash) 3. Take out the existing crown, do root canal then do a new crown.(Root canal S$0.8k and Crown S$0.5k) Help!! The pain is killing me. Ultramega 1st Gear March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 i think if you take option 2 or 3, also need to do option 1 (extract tooth) as a first step right? so why don't you do option 1 1st, wait a couple of weeks and see if you can live with it. if can then do nothing. if cannot then consider option 2 or 3. All in all it will cost you about 4k but its the best solution to your problem. For a root canal treatment, its time-consuming and the crown will not last forever. The post-crown care is very important and its not uncommon for people to have their crowns dislodged when eating sticky/hard food. There is also a chance that decay can still set in from the crown margin and your remaining tooth structure. Pretty much like what you are experiencing now. I believe your crown was placed in because of a hairline crack? Actually an normal person only utilises the first molar, so you can actually live without your problematic tooth. Qpik Supercharged March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 (edited) bro, check out the link. this is the system that i got quotation for. http://www.gpadental.com/services/implant.htm my dentists at AH didn't tell me what system they will be using but i understand they got more than 1 system. the only problem holding me back is going under the laser btw, i was given same options as u after the hairline cracked to the root. my dentist recommended extraction as the 3d x-ray showed bad result and he said that doing root canal is no gtd that it won't split. during extraction, the tooth split into two. luckily took his advice and saved more than 1k.
