Ahsiong Neutral Newbie May 5, 2008 Share May 5, 2008 i thought many japanese cars can take ron92? and as quoted on a website (http://www.med.govt.nz/templates/MultipageDocumentPage____10382.aspx): "Two grades of petrol are specified in the Japanese standard, premium grade (96 RON) and regular grade (89 RON minimum), with the dominant fuel grade being regular." so i guess if your manual state your car can take regular grade, then our ron92 should be more than enough. Rickster 5th Gear May 5, 2008 Share May 5, 2008 (edited) Hi, anyone tried 92 RON for your FD2 ? Feedback appreciated. Thanks!! Bro, don't do this type of thing with your car. 1 tank of 92 and 95 not much diff, for your car, probably its only $1.50.....1 month how much can you save? Unless your manual states can then by all means, go for it. Edited May 5, 2008 by Rickster

Chemz Clutched May 5, 2008 Share May 5, 2008 shouldnt be a problem, the ecu will just retard the ignition settings. but i wouldnt recommend it la, how much can u save really?
The_young_once Neutral Newbie May 5, 2008 Share May 5, 2008 yo, can save quite alot, seriously, i cant recall the detailed breakdown but it was a long time ago i used 95, for almost 2 years already permanently on 92, i recall last time when i was using 95 vs 92 switch back and forth, the savings is about $60 a month, and back then, thats about one tank of petrol cost (of course now thats barely 3/4 tank) using SPC and with dbs credit card, 10% discount, using 92, monthly bill about $450, monthly mileage approx 2k km, plus a bit
Observer 4th Gear May 5, 2008 Share May 5, 2008 The price hike really hit so bad?
Chemz Clutched May 5, 2008 Share May 5, 2008 can tell your usage is pretty high.. i pump once a week only. and my mileage averages abt 20+k km per annum. so assuming if the average user clocks 20k km per yr, and pumps abt 4times a month, it's quite impossible to save $15 per pump. what im trying to say is, if FC is a concern, then obviously a 2l engine should be the first to go, esp when one is trying to save 10-20 bucks a month. Mirrorimage 1st Gear May 5, 2008 Share May 5, 2008 Hi, anyone tried 92 RON for your FD2 ? Feedback appreciated. Thanks!! You can just go ahead with the min requirements that the manual states. Unless you have increased your car's compression else the min requirement is fine. i was using a B18C honda engine once. compression 11, with more than 100BHP per litre and i was still using Ron92.it didnt ping and it was running fine. When i went on to higher compression pistons and higher cams, my first tank of Ron 92 caused my car unable to drive out of petrol kiosk. Add in Octane booster then can liao. After tt then i slowly test and found out i needed at least ron 98. So dont worry. If you car rejects the petrol, it will be very obvious. Engine pinging is very obvious so dont worry. Ahyoo2002 2nd Gear May 5, 2008 Share May 5, 2008 Hi, anyone tried 92 RON for your FD2 ? Feedback appreciated. Thanks!! Look like the high petrol price is driving every car owner crazy, from pumping at Jb and downgraded to lower RON
Rickster 5th Gear May 5, 2008 Share May 5, 2008 It depends. For me, I'd driving budget car coz my job requires it. However, for someone who clocks high mileage about 40K/annum....i tink it is only wise to get a car that has excellent FC and not take pains just to save $10 per month.
