Typhoon125 3rd Gear July 1, 2008 Share July 1, 2008 If a MiniVan is $37,000.00, and I buy it weekend car registration, it will come with a $17,000.00 off. Meaning the car is $20,000.00. Having coe at $13,000, parf at $3500, if I scrape it after 2 years, I will have a total refund of $12,325.00 ( coe plus parf ). Meaning total lost is $7,675.00 for 2 years. That's very low for a new car. Hence the high increase in PRC made Weekend cars on our road now. Do you agree with my calculation? Or you feel that there is a catch...... ↡ Advertisement

Snappyg9 Neutral Newbie July 1, 2008 Share July 1, 2008 Let's assume that you purchase the car at $37k with a COE of $13,000. $17,000 will be deducted for OPC car. Amount payable for registration of a vehicle RF - $140 ARF - OMV x 100% (e.g $8,000 x 100%=$8,000) COE - $13,000 Excise duty - OMV x 20% (e.g $8,000 x 20% = $1,600) Total - $22,740 For OPC car, $17,000 wil be deducted from the total registration value of $22,740. If COE is lower than $17,000, they will deduct from the COE amount 1st, then excise duty, then ARF. So, in this case is $17,000 - $13,000 - $1,600 - $8,000 = $5,600 payable for ARF. Which means in this case the discount has ben deducted from the parf rebate also. Parf rebate at 10th year = 50% of ARF (50% x $5,600 = $2,800) There are many OPC vehicles registered in 06 and 07 with $0 or little parf rebate, as COE at that time was about $9k-$11K.
