Oic.

The hole is like at the turning point (cannot rem which turn), from driver view, it seem like 2 way tho. I notice 1 car went in there, make a 180 turn, then went off again. I am certain that's not pit stop. It's just the right size of a F1 car to be in.

That's call a run-off area, in case you can't make the turn, instead of crashing, they can brake inside. This is usually found in area where corners where accident are more prone to happen.

I think the organisers, together with the volunteers, did a good job this year. There were many security loopholes on the first day, like people stranding into the restricted areas, insufficient barriers, walk-about ticket holders can't find their way, etc.

Many marshals ended up doing extra jobs like information "counter" and security guards. The problems were much reduced by race day, with more security guards and Cisco officers deployed, and more fancing being set up.

The recovery team is a combination of volunteers and commercial companies. Some were operating the Manutou for the first time. As there were few openings to access the street circuit (for safety reasons), recovery took longer than expected. I'm sure they'll learn and improve next year.

Give the organiser a break....for a first time, I think they have done very well. Off course there are still room for improvements.

For the recovery of accident cars, I believe this is a new track and now nobody knows where are the "accident prone areas". I believe 2009 they would do better....both for the organiser and the drivers.

Lastly...I suspect they race against traffic flow for fear that some road hero would take their ride to try the F1 circuit....for the benefit of the whole Singapore....pls if you have the though....pls erase it now !! Dun wan to give the gov a chance to write off motorsports again.

Lastly....for the organiser....give yourself a pat on the back for a spectacular piece of show !!

As I suspected....the backdrop is stunning !! (PS...next year maybe they can coordinate with the Shenton Way office to switch on all their lights to create a even more stunning backdrop !!!)

1) So that they won't be distracted with signs on the road e.g. "SLOW"

2) To see how much weight they have lost due to excessive water loss from dehydration.

3) That is the rev meter; you don't want to over-rev and blow the engine. Not good in a million dollar car.

4) No reverse gear; most of the time they depend on their superior torque and lack of traction to do "burnouts" to get them to face the correct direction.

I think u oni got number 3 right but sounds so convincing :P hahaha

I hope no one took it seriously. Hahah it was meant to be sarcastic.

Yesterday I watched F1 on TV for the first time and there are some things I don't understand

- How come they are racing against the normal flow of traffic?

- How come the drivers must be weighed after racing?

- What is that red light that flash left to right on the steering wheel?

- F1 cars have reverse gear?

Can someone explain? Thanks?

1.this should be the design of the circuit.it has got nothing to do with against traffic flow or not.

if you had looked clearly, some parts of the circuit are not against the traffic flow.

2.because they will lost weight after about 2 hour of racing due to loss of water as they are ebing wrapped up in their suit which is very hot.

3.that act as an rpm to remind them to shift gears.

4.i think don't have.they can do a very sweet u-turn easily.

The F1 cars do have a reverse gear. It is a "R" button on the steering wheel.

[nod] Its the purple button on the redbull steering wheel.

Neutral Newbie

thanks for all the bros here, really made me learnt a lot more about F1. Though not exactly a F1 fan, i do catch up with a bit of the F1 news on the web. Did not watch any of the previous races on tv though so when i watched the Singapore F1, it was really exciting.

I also admire and respect the people involved in making this race a success. You all sacrifice the time to make the first night race a memorable one. Good job!

[thumbsup]

i have a question about F1 also. Why is the steering wheel on the car removable? Is it because to allow the drivers to get in and out of the car as there is no way they can do so with the steering wheel attached? Or are there any other reasons?

Also, i am still a bit confused on the Safety Car messing up the positions of the F1 cars even though i had tried to understand. When the SC comes out, i know all have to slow down behind it and pit lanes are closed.

Lets say an accident happens, the SC comes out (as directed by race control and at anytime?) and just nice intercepts behind the 4th positioned car. Lets say nobody pit stops (i understand this so they don waste time trailing behind the SC), so the 5th positioned car is damn lucky lar, because he is just behind the safety car and the 1st 4 cars all bad luck cos they have to go one big round (which is going to be wasted) and follow right at the back of the SC.

Isn't that a bit unfair to the 1st 4 cars? And by right they should be another lap ahead of the others so shouldnt that count as well? [confused]

Did you noticed that Sillypore way of recovering crashed vehilces are very 'unprofessional'?

They didn't use long over head crane, to enable them to reach in all places of the track to haul damaged vehicles away quickly!

Which also explains why the Safety Car has to go round for so long after each incident.

Moreover, the response of the safety crew and damage removal crew was not very quick...almost like taking their time.....maybe they employed some Bangla FTs for these job! sly.giflaugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

alamak, this is the 1st time they done it here in Sillypore, not all the mashals are "old bird" mah laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif
