Fake focal speakers?

hi all,

 

today I went to Sim Lim tower and bought a pair of Focal speakers for $300.

 

SHop name: Anergy Audio (the first car audio shop on left when u go into Sim Lim Tower, near OCBC)

Model: Focal Polyglass 165 V Slim.

 

the salesman said that this is new model it is cheap because they import directly themselves.

 

Now i came home and searched on internet and realised that there are fake focal speakers ard!

anyone encounter with this shop b4?

anyone heard of this model fake speakers before??

The key differences between fake and real ones are:

 

1. quality (e.g. speakers would be its sound quality)

2. made-quality (is it poor manufactured, etc)

Fake Focal speakers on eBay now.

They look like the real thing, the packaging is just like a genuine Focal box, they even have a Focal warranty card that looks and feels genuine.

Small clue: the tweeter spanner in the fake sets is aluminium, the tweeter spanner in a genuine Focal speaker kit is plastic.

The woofer cone material on the fake 165V1 we bought recently is a spray-on finish, the genuine product has microscopic fibreglass beads coating the cone. Unless you have a genuine set to compare with, you probably won't tell.

The tweeter cones are obviously poorly made. The wiring terminates in a different way on the back of the tweeters, if you need any further indication of fake or genuine.

The fake speakers sounded 'okay', they are probably a match for a lot of other Asian-made speakers, but they lacked bass extension and the tweeters were shrill.

Today I went to a audio shop to install and they say the quality is gd!!

so i assume that they are real and I paid a gd price for it!

When I went shopping for my HU recently, this was the first shop I went into. The guy that attended to me seemed nice enough, was willing to show me his display setups even though I told him I'm only there to do homework.

best to let the local agent take a look. I got mine from the net. but i drove down to the agent to let them "feel" to confirm that it's real...

mine is a different model from the website.

 

but the wiring of my tweeters looks the same as the fake one!

the Focal word on the box is also same as the fake one, not white colour!

 

but audio shop guy has 20 yrs expereience and told me the sound quality from the speakers are good! ask me go bac 2 wks later to tune...

 

wah.. i really dunno leh....

 

which agent so good helped u verify for free your speakers??

My bro and I bought from the same salesman Ced*** 2 months back and he assured us that our focal polyglass V Slim are the real stuffs. There's even warrenty with serial number on it. Pls update us if u manage to verify the authenticity.

Same guy that I talked to when I was there. Nothing bad to say about him, but I didn't buy from their shop la.
