Windows XP cannot start

Any IT expert here that can help me? My computer (desktop) just refuse to start. It goes like this:

 

1. Switch on

2. Load DMI bla bla bla..

3. See the Windows logo with the counting bar getting full.

4. Ask if you wanna go to safe mode.

5. You can only start in safe mode.

6. If you try to start normally, it goes back to the very first boot up sequence again.. round and round and round.

 

Any idea what I should do? Reinstall Windows or I try to boot up with the installation disk and repair etc?

Hmm... try and repair with the installation disk 1st. If cannot, then reinstall the winxp lah... should be able to work.

Before you do that, go to: Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore. Choose a date when the system was not giving such a problem

maybe a week ago etc.. hen run the restore, you should be ok by then. If that works, set a restore date, just in case you need to do som next time round. If all fails, backup your data, then press F11 during your start up to activate recovery, if you have made a recovery disc before, then put the disc in, press ESC and select boot up from CD/DVD drive, and run from there, it'll restore everything that was installed on your system back again.

i am not too sure whether system restore can be run in safe mode..coz TS can't even boot into windows proper..

sound like kenna virus. run virus scan in the safe mode if u have antivirus software. recently install any software?

safe mode can run system recovery too.

no problem with that.

if u ever go into safe mode, means something's wrong and might need to restore.

 

And if cannot run restore in safe mode, then the whole restore thingy is quite crap right?

1) Try take out the pheripherals first (gfx, mem, sound card)

 

2) Try repair window

 

Using Xp? There's really nothing difficult on xp, if it still dun work, something wrong on your hardware I guess.

the last time smth similar happened, it was due to my ram not inserted correctly..hafta make sure its ALL the way into the slot.

The last time it happened to me, my Hard Disk crashed shortly after.

Could also be a Hard Disk problem.

luckily his was solely O/S problem.

 

I had similar problem as urs.. restarted a few times, and harddisk went to heaven..

Yup, almost had the fright of my life as I had not backed up my data. Luckily I was able to extract my important documents in the end. The rule of thumb is to backup all important documents frequently regardless of how new or how good you think your hard disk is.
