Dear all,

Just wondering how many of you are using Portable Harddisk and what size.

Those that don't have .... pleas share why.

Thanks.

I have 1 x 20 GB and 1 x 80 GB for storing photos and videos. Took out from previous old lap tops before returning them to office.

I just have another 160 GB one free today from my old Dell Laptop. Just change NoteBook to Fujitsu E8420. [:)][:)]

What is the price difference between 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM Hard Disk?

frankly speaking, i would rather buy a few smaller hdds then 1 big hdd to store all my stuffs and getting all data lost with 1 faulty hdd.

Given a choice to buy 320GB or 2 x 160GB...i will go for the latter.

btw, do you guys backup whatever in your external hdd into another hdd?

I have a fren who stored all his files in this external hdd but never backup in a 2nd hdd and ended up all crashed. portable does not mean no need to backup also...

160GB at 72 with casing...the casing looks cheapo but ok to use.

the discount was given to staff from one of our distributors.

320GB w casing around $146.

Casing is not that important .... as long as it's workable.

Anybody can tell me any difference if I were to get SATA type? Is it faster?

priceless data:

Warning: not cheap!

Remember reading Digital Life couple of months back -

a local setup at science park. Can't remember the name....

ya.. I read about that.. but I think that is a bit extreme.. erm.. too bad, i don't keep that copy... would be useful now that I need it [:/]

Cheers

IMO, for portable i dun recommend to use big capacity HDD.

Cos it will take very long to do data recovery if anything happened.

Example... It took me 5 full days to recover a 160gb HDD.

To recover a 500gb... [rolleyes][rolleyes][rolleyes]

But with high capacity being quite cheap .... guess that'll be the trend.

Btw .... how did you recover your data?

What did you do?

I guess it is up to personal's preferences. I don't like to carry so many around and the USB cables will be very messy in my bag [:p] I tried to minimise the number of things to carry around when i travel la, but still i hv 1 for data, 1 for movies and songs and 1 for backup [sweatdrop]
