Darrenowl Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 If i'm not wrong, the NCD protector you purchase will only be applicable to the existing insurance company you are currently with. So for example, if you got into a nasty accident and have a big claim, yes your NCD is protected only for the existing company during renewal but they can load you. But if you renew with another company, the NCD protector is not applicable to the new company so it seem to be lose-lose for consumer. Just for sharing..i hope i'm wrong though. Mulia Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 Hi Helloworld88, I agree with red that we almost always will not make an insurance claim bcos really boh hua. U claim now, next year your premiums will shoot up way too high. I don't feel comfortable about your insurance agent's claim of only small amount to protect 50%ncd: I dun believe they will protect your 50%ncd if you make a claim during that year. Better check with them and see the small prints. Car insurance industry is very shady: there's a couple who was slapped with $18k claims for a small dent: I pity them, but they are kind enough to share their story at justicebaogong.blogspot. Westender Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 Protect NCD offcause can, problem is, they can load up your insurance(if you get into an accident) to the moon till after 50% NCD, you still pay double or more from your current premium. Mulia Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 Hi Redstorm, Could u kindly share with me the horror stories of NTUC: I have heard of it from a couple who was aggrieved by NTUC. Do drop a comment in support of this couple as they really poor thing: their court case against NTUC should be somewhere this week. They share their story in justicebaogong.blogspot.com
Sinner Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 My good friend, who is also a insurance agent whom i bought my car insurance, told me no need to buy n save on e ncd protection premium. Like u guys say, even if u got ncd protection, n u LL kena *touchwood* accident, they will RAISE e premium to even e rate tat with or without ncd protection made no difference? So eventually u r paying more for a peace of mind but exact fact NOPE! Any living proof to share his/her experience?
Killer5010 Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 Go for it. I have my 50% NCD protected. First time bought it and sway sway kana accident. Repair cost was 6K. There is no way my insurance premium will go up 2K (without NCD) + 6K because of a 6K claim. Even if it does, 8K with 50% off is 4K. I am paying 1K pa for 50% NCD. So that 4K only add up additional 3K pa. If you compare the 6K repair cost. It is nothing. NCD protection is not just for show. It does help if you have an accident and with only paying a small premium.
Speddevil Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 I suppose it depend on the Insurer discretion ..
Helloworld88 2nd Gear November 5, 2008 Author Share November 5, 2008 Hi KIller5010, I don't quite get it... What is the new premium after the 6k repair accident ? And as far as I know, NCD is a factor in computing premium, you cannot directly multipy it from last policy premium.
Killer5010 Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 That is not what I meant. I am just using my prevous claim of 6K as an example and how I make a decision to make a claim. Of course the premium will not be additional 6K as per my claim.
Speddevil Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 I do not agreed to your frd view.. At least you get load on the premium but will preserve your NCD entitlement right? If your NCD is reduced from 50% - 20% due to accident claims, your premium will also be loaded at the same time.lagi worse, had to slowly wait and be careful for 3 yr to obtain the 50% NCD. The difference on the earlier scenario is that premium will be loaded but NCD remain intact. Upon next renewal can switch Insurer to enjoy premium changing why not? Speddevil Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 Though Insurer is in win-win situation whether with or wothout NCD protector, the claims amount often surpass the amount of the premium collected. That why many Insurer raised their premium collectively. In good time, everybody compete for customer. That's the trend
Speddevil Neutral Newbie November 5, 2008 Share November 5, 2008 that will be frightening if this is the case..

So for some, it may be the case like what you've mentioned but for some others ..... their rates are still very reasonable even with claim. To me ... when I got 50% NCD .... I CONFIRM will take NCD protector, as long as the additional premium remains reasonable.
