Help! BMW520 or MercE200?

Just went to see the two cars with my girlfriend and her Boyfriend......apparently her BF wants to buy one car for her. Don't ask me why so good or what did she do to deserve it.

 

Both cars are equally good and classy looking.

The features are more or less there.

 

BMW 520 = $140k

16" tyre, with i-drive+LCDscreen, keyless entry and everything electric.

 

Merc E200 = $156k

18" tyre, keyless entry, local installed reverse camera+2"lcd screen and everything electric.

 

Seeking the stereotypical view from you guys........which is a better car for a girl to drive?

Ignoring maintenance and breakdown issues, which I think both are similar. Let put cost out of the question since it will be "free" for her.

 

Which is more appropriate in the view of others perception for a young girl to drive?

Personally I think BMW 520 looks more elegant.Merc E200 looks like ah peh leh,furthermore,BMW still got the classy feeling,it's not a cab yet.Another thing is that I tends to peek over at female driving BMW than Merc E class.just my 2 cents worth.

Depends on the driver, if the person is of some work level that requires a form of "air" than a Mercedes wins hands down, BMW very hard to be a car that is as prestigious as the Merc.

 

But interms of drive, a BMW wins any day, drive wise I prefer the BMW and also feels the BMW has a presence and allure unlike alot of cars out there.

 

Merc is not Ah Pek to me. Merc's prestige somehow overwhelms BMW's.

Girl will probably like Merc more..

The glam/tai tai factor will be there..

 

But if she enjoy driving , then BMW 520 , though a tad underpowered , will fulfill that ... and will be just as classy as well...

 

A young girl driving a BMW will probably be seen as more "approachable" to Guys than one driving a Merc..

as the latter will be perceived as more aloof...

if u wan to know wat driving 520 feels like, u can try driving the mercedes NGT version. 520 is worse than that.

None... with that kind of money, I will go for an Alfa Spider or even cheaper still, the Brera, especially for a gal. Then again I'm biased.

 

Isn't the 520 a 4-potter? If it is, then it's pointless for a BMW unless you just want a badge. No offense to anyone but just my 5 cents thoughts.

not really... IS250, Mark X, GTI, all much cheaper... in that price range, it is not all that wide a variety

 

Anyway, it's just an opinion... the buyer is the one making the choice, hopefully not just based on others' opinion here.

The thing is not that the BF will change his mind or not.

Its just that she does not know which car to chose from.

 

Of course there might be some unknown reason why her BF chose this two particular model of cars and not other models like IS250, Alfa, GTi, etc.

There is reason why it is 2", it is because it fits swee swee just beside the rearview mirror in parallel which mean you can have a full view when look through the rearview mirror.

It's up to individual... if you like the looks of BMW, get the BMW.

5 series look very young and fierce... but the facelift E-class also look very elegant.

But power wise E200 win hands down... with extra about 30bhp is a huge difference.

 

BMW 520 = 156bhp

E200 = 184bhp

Personally I am a BMW fan but if you are buying it for yourself get the merc as it will retain its value better. If its a company car get the BMW

Recently the word Cheap has been associated with BMW esp the 5 series...

Really dirt cheap. See all the hawkers and ah peks driving the 5 series..

Merc still retains their standard
