Wolverinespawn Clutched January 11, 2009 Author Share January 11, 2009 (edited) November 25, 2006: A hotelier’s son was gunned down in his car. The victim and a lady friend were at a traffic light near his house in Jalan Kuning (a short walk from where I work). A car pulled up behind, two men rushed them with a pistol, opened the door and tried to force him out. The lady friend accelerated and the gunman opened fire, hitting him. He was dead shortly after. The Star news story. I also recall around the same time as the shooting case above, a cop was intentionally rammed by a car while he was checking on another car. ——– New Year’s Day 2007: Four guys (perhaps drunk) threw rocks at cops and Federal Reserve Unit men at Danga Bay. They were apparently upset over something or other. The police also issued 379 summonses for various traffic offenses that night. ——– 4 January, 2007: Just last night around 4.30am, a Singaporean businessman got slashed to death in front of his house at Taman Permas Jaya. He and his girlfriend had run off in different directions to try and escape. Just another day (night) in the life (death) of Johor Bahru-ians. Wolverinespawn Clutched January 11, 2009 Author Share January 11, 2009 (edited) “A person who had not been robbed is not a true JB-ite” The people of Johor Baru and Johore state should make full use of the public hearing of the Parliamentary Caucus on Human Rights in Johor Baru on Sunday, 8th July 2007 to voice out their hopes and fears about the crime situation in the southern capital and state. The 250% exceeding of the target of the 100,000-signature campaign launched by the Johor Baru Chung Hua Association for the restoration of safety, law and order in the Johore capital, with 350,000 signatures collected from all over the country, including online, from all races, religions, classes, gender and age group, illustrates the gravity of the problem of the crime situation in JB, Johore and Malaysia. It is commendable that the top police leadership is showing serious response, with the visit of the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Musa Hassan to Johor Baru yesterday and the Johore Chief Police Officer, Datuk Hussin Ismail himself going down to the “black areas” of crime in JB on night patrol. There must be all-round determination that this time, the public revulsion against the high crime rate and rampant lawlessness in JB, must be a sustained and long-term commitment and not a short-term response to the public outcry. This is for the safety of all Malaysian citizens and their loved ones, tourists and investors. The notoriety of JB as the capital of crime must be wiped out, and the self-deprecating and shameful definition that a person who had not been robbed is not a genuine resident of JB must be a thing of the past. The Police should announce the “black areas” of crime in JB, Johore and the country which will enable the public to monitor the success of the police drive to turn them into “safe” crime-free and low-crime areas. I hope the public hearing of the Parliamentary Caucus on Human Rights in JB on July 8 can help to wipe out such a definition of a JB resident — a person who had been robbed at least once. Johore Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Gani said yesterday that in the next two to four months, 1,274 new cops would be deployed to Johor Baru, improving the police-population ratio in Johor Baru from 1:1,500 to 1:650. I had commented last week in reaction to the earlier announcement of an increase of 400 new cops to Johor Bahru that what JB needed is an immediate deployment of at least 1,000 more cops and not just 400. I am glad that the Johore Mentri Besar has agreed with my assessment, although I am surprised by his figures of an improved police:policement ratio to 1:650 from the current 1:1,500 with an increase of 1,274 new cops by August. At present there are 1,843 police personnel in Johor Baru with a population of 1,690,069 people or police:population ratio of 1:917 — made up of Johor Baru Selatan with a population of 1,159,079 and 1,159 cops or policemen:population ratio of 1:1,000 and Johor Baru Utara with a population of 530,990 and 684 cops or a policemen:population ratio of 1:776. With an increase of 1,274 new cops to the 1,843 present police contingent in JB, the police:population ratio will be 1:542 or more than double the national policemen:population ratio of 1:275. May be the Inspector-General of Police or the Johore Chief Police Officer can straighten out these confusing and conflicting figures of policemen-population ratio for JB at present and in a few months time when another 1,274 new cops are deployed to JB. This is essential to establish the professionalism of the police, which has a bearing on public confidence in the police. Wolverinespawn Clutched January 11, 2009 Author Share January 11, 2009 BIG TITLE: Johor robbers chase and crash into couple's car near Second Link. They bash man and tell girlfriend: HAVE FUN WITH US OR WE'LL KILL HIM. Three of them then rape girl, 19. DETAILS: She watched helplessly as four knife-wielding robbers took turns to ruthlessly beat up her boyfriend. Then one of them agve her this chilling choice: "Let us have fun with you, or we will kill your boyfriend." The woman, 19, felt she had no choice but to comply. She was then gang raped by three of the robbers, while her semim-conscious boyfriend, 22, lay metres away. The horrific incident happend around 10pm on Monday night in Gelang Petah in Johor, near the Second Link. The boyfriend, who wanted to be known just as Ah Li, said that he had driven to Pontian to pick up his waitress-girlfriend to return home to Johor Baru. They were in Gelang Petah when a silver Toyota suddenly banged into their red Proton Iswara from behind. Ah Li, a mechanic, said he saw four burly men in the other car, so he decided not to stop. His girlfriend, May (not her rean name), said: "The car kept flashing its high beam at us. That's when we realised something was wrong, so we accelerated to get away." Ah Li called his older brother on his hanphone to alert him that they were being pursued. He asked his brother to get help. Then he made the fatal mistake of turning off the expressway in Nusajaya to shake off their pursuers - and ended up on a dead-end road. Ah Li tried frantically to turn the car around, but it broke down. When the robbers caught up with them, Ah Li tried to call his older brother for help again, but a robber snatched away his phone. When he tried to escape, the robbers pulled out two knives, beat him up and slashed his right leg. They bundled their victims into the Toyota, with May seated in front between the driver and a robber holding a knife at her abdomen. Ah Li was subdued by the two other robbbers in the back. When they reached a toll booth, the robbers pressed the knives into their victims and warned them not to say anything. The toll booth attendant did not realise anything was amiss, despite there being three people squeezed in the front. The robbers stopped the car at a deserted clearing in Tmana Tampoi Indah, some 40km away from the robbery site, reported the New Straits Times. Said May: "They pushed my boyfriend out and kept beating him." "Then one of them grabbed my arm and said, 'if you let us have some fun, I won't kill your boyfriend. After we are done, I'll let you both go free.' "Under those circumstances, I had no choice but to say yes.". She thought she would only have to endure one rape. But after the first man was done, two robbers raped her as well while the last robber kept watch over her semi-conscious boyfriend. They then left the victims and sped off. May stumbled to the main road and tried to get help. THankfully, five people on their wayto supper saw the rying girl and stopped their car. They called the police and ambulance - but were asked to call other police branches, as the robbery and rapes had taken place in different jurisdictionns. Said one of the good Samaritans:"The boyfriend was lying on the grass bleeding... We waited for half an hour, and when no police came, three of my friends sent them to the hospital in the car, while two of us followed in a taxi." He said he felt sickend when they passed a toll booth just 500m from where they found the victims, and saw a police patrol car. Equally frustrated was Ah Li's older brother. The 27 year old salesman was in tears as he recounted his brother's distress call. Recalling the second call, he said his brother had shouted: "The car has stalled". He then hread a commotion, then May screaming: "They have a knife! before the phone was snatch away. His parent went to a police station to made a report, but no action was taken. The brother then drove to the Gelang Petah area himself to try to look for them. He spotted a patrol car and flagged it down. He said he begged the three police officer inside to help search for the couple, but the officers were unmoved and later drove off. A Johor police spokesman said the unfortunate situation had arisen because the robbery and rape took place in different jurisdictins. He said that when the public call the police, they need time to ascertain the location and situation of the crime, and delays may result. He said the matter would be investigated throughly.
