Maddriver 4th Gear March 23, 2009 Share March 23, 2009 (edited) I think most of us know how to use a claybar and the purposes..Here is a video for Bros and Sis who are not sure how to go about with a claybar.. Of cos i dun use QD la..Is a big investment..I usually fill shampoo mix with water in a spray bottle and use it like a Quick detail.. Unless if you are not going to polish or wax and you want to have a waxy oily feel..Then use a Quick detailer with clay... Rlee Clutched May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 I think most of us know how to use a claybar and the purposes..Here is a video for Bros and Sis who are not sure how to go about with a claybar.. Well, you are rite, most of us know. But i am not very sure . Saw some claybar at Shell but instructions very vague. So i have a question on the process, hope that someone who be kind enough to share some light Here is how i think it is(of cos i may be wrong): Steps: 1) Shampoo car 2) Dry car 3) Lubricate panel with a Macquire QD and move claybar gently over panel?(Are there anything other kind of claybar lubricant other than QD?) 4) Dry panel with detailing cloth. 5) wax panel (is this a compulsory step after claybar-ing?)after getting rid of dust with mint cloth. 6) apply sealant(if i had done step 5) Thanks thanks in advance
Credor Twincharged May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 From what l know of: 3) U can use any QD or car shampoo as a lubricant ..but then QD ahould be the best but ex. 5) & 6) U should apply sealant before waxing... Do take note what your sealant curing time? Normal at least 12 hrs to 24 hrs... If U want immediate type... use ES (Dg product)... look for Maddriver...Benny The rest of the steps should be ok bah. well, let see what the experts say. Rlee Clutched May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 U mean can use car shampoo as lubricant? How? Wash and clay at the same time? I am actually using Autoglym, u know the red labelled bottle for waxing followed by the golden labelled bottle as per the instructions. Yeah, lets see what the experts have to say. Aft using MD or sonax products, u will nvr look back on Autoglym anymore.

I am actually using Autoglym, u know the red labelled bottle for waxing followed by the golden labelled bottle as per the instructions. Yeah, lets see what the experts have to say. I think is impt to know the purpose of each step to avoid doing more damage than good.. Claying is suppose to perform on a washed surface to remove embedded contaminates which washing could not. Using it frequently to remove any other dirt will not only pose additional risk to scratch the car, you are also wasting clay bar. Wash and clay is possible if your car is not as dirty or ya washing with strong solution and ya able to remove most dirt with 1 pass. For me i prefer to put shampoo mixture into spray bottle and use for claying but sometimes will use sponge to sqeeze water out and clay. Autoglym the red labelled and golden bottle if i am not wrong you are refering to super resin polish and extra gloss protection. Imo, quite a underated combo here but is quite popular in UK.. Longtianc Neutral Newbie May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 I cut DG claybar into three pieces. Thought it was little small but it was alright. The claybar is really soft and really picks up dirt better and much faster than the other claybars in the market. For me, I use those sprayer(typically used when ironing clothes) u can buy from NTUC, put soap and water and spray on while I clay the area. Ensure area is always well lubricated. Overall fantastic claybar to use.
Credor Twincharged May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 (edited) For me. i wash the car first... so as to get rid of those dirt on the car. After that, i will clay using shampoo. U can put the shampoo into a spray bottle( just like some bro mentioned).. Just spray like how U use ur QD... Remember the clayed portion must be well lubricant ( spray more shampoo water since it dun cost that much ) After that just rinsed ur car again. Above steps may seem more troublesome... but it much more cheaper than using a QD for claying. Edited May 24, 2009 by Credor

Rlee Clutched May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 Its true that the Autoglym products are a bit tough to remove, but the polish resin did leave a smooth feel after leaving it to cure for about an hour. But no choice also, money spent alr so got to finish the bottle before thinking of others. Really thank you guys for posting. Appreciate it.
Booboon 1st Gear May 25, 2009 Share May 25, 2009 Agreed, autoglym leave too much of white residual. I gave them to my neighbours. keke, now I switch all to DG. As in all polishes, u must have applied to thick. Have been using SRP for the pass one year. Apply thin layer, not much white residual problem. In fact, SRP is one of the most economical polish u can find, and not forgetting it has a stronger chemical cleaning properties than most AIO in the market. Dschia Neutral Newbie May 26, 2009 Share May 26, 2009 I have been using SRP for years also and like it. It has excellent cleaning properties and quite a good base for many sealant/wax. Apply it thin with a damp applicator in circular motion first then finish in straight lines and let it dry for few minutes before buff and you won't face white residue and is one of the easiest to remove.
