CPF usage

times are bad. we do not need SPURS or job credits. Let us use our CPF to tide over the bad times. Its our $$, why can't we use our own $$ to tide us over? Is there a need to lock up the citizens $$? Can there be some flexibility from the elites?

Generally most singaporeans would have utilised their CPF in their housing purchase, leaving only a handful with excess CPF to draw down to take advantage of your idea. Secondly, if all account holders are drawing from the CPF Board, guess the govt would have to weigh if the have the means to fulfill all request. jmo

Supersonic

Gahment thinks that all Singaporeans are too stupid to be able to manage their own money. All the stupid Singaporeans will squander all their money and have nothing left for retirement. That is why Gahment must lock up our money and make sure we don't act stupidly.

I guess there is some truth in that - after all, most Singaporeans still votes this bunch of monkeys into office every 5 years, so, how smart can they be right?

Yes, how many would know money management? Got money in pocket, just anyhow spend, never think of rainy days. Though i don't like most of gov policies, the CPF is good for all.

No way, CPF is for your retirement... cos gov doesnt wan to waste rice on old people. simple as that.

something to add on...

with home prices rocketing for the past years, most people would have to use up most of their OA account to buy dat "affordable" home...

after the loan has been fully paid up... mostly likely... the OA has not much juice inside also.. unless the owner downgrade to the highly recommended "studio apartment" aka 2-rooms flats.... when they retired... to cash out some money to be returned to their OA account. [sweatdrop]

Not all people. What about those that know how to invest and save for the future? Its good for the majority of the population because people are stupid.

yes...yes.yes..........but this is the toughest times in a decade. i propose the middle and upper class do not need to use the cpf. only those in the lower income should be allowed to use cpf $$. some of them got kids, kena retrenched and new job pay is meagre. surely the elite should allow them to use their own cpf $.
