Anewtech Neutral Newbie July 3, 2003 Share July 3, 2003 Hi all, I've booked a new Hyundai Accent 2003, going for COE bidding this coming Monday. However, it seems that when I tell most of my friends, they seems to pour "cold water" on my purchase Is Accent really that bad of a car? I really like the face-lift look, what you guys think? Does anyone in this forum owns and driving a 2003 Accent already? Any comments and experience to share, please share... looking forward for your replies! ↡ Advertisement
E36UDM Neutral Newbie July 3, 2003 Share July 3, 2003 Hi ANEWTECH, You getting the 1.6 auto or manual? To me the car's not bad, value for money. Guess your friends are concern with the resale value. There's afew Accent drivers here, maybe you can wait for them to welcome you to the club. You can check under members registry to know who drives one
Anewtech Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Author Share July 4, 2003 Ya E36UDM, you're right, one of my friend just told me right in my face that Accent's resale value not good. Anyway, me getting the 1.5 auto lar...singapore no 1.6 version leh...although the ever changing Hyundai(SG) site in these few days did says 1.6 engine. So what make you say it's valve for money...urs the 2003 Accent? Did you do any mods here and there...share leh
Accenture Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 accent is a decent car...bad resale is true but tell me which car is not nowadays. I used the to drive the pre-face lift model 1.5 mannual. Mannual is pretty diveable...auto seems a little breathless(slow) to me. The only complain...the dash is not well built...creaks like hell for a new car. Send it in but still cannot rectify. Main reason is the "judicious" us of hard plastics...engine is reliable and handling is actually quite good.
Lawreo2002 Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 wat is impt is you like the car and it suits yr budget of course anyone would like a good car but they come at a premium
Tomahawk Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 Hey, I used to drive a pre-face lifted model too... I must say is a reliable car (mine Manual). I drove it for 3 years + and only repairs I have are: 1) Fuel Gauge - after 3 mths 2) Front Shocks - after 3 years (repeated abused from Malaysian road, hit potholes couple times) All replaced free. Quite torquey for the manual, enjoy my time with it. The car can hit 180km/h along NS highway (need a distance thou. Good reviews But the interior start to rattle abit after 3 years, maybe due to my rough handling up Malaysia thou... Enjoy your ride, dun bother wat ppl say...Most look at branding then the car itself, resale value hasnt been good for any other brand also, so y bother? My Two Cent worth
Anewtech Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Author Share July 4, 2003 Thanks for the replies, guys! It seems that none of you guys own an '03 Accent? would like to hear comments of the same car that I'm getting... Cos really I do seldom see it on the road, unlike the "very" common corolla! Hktan Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 Hi, I drive a '02 Accent Auto. The car is value for money. Unless you are willing to pay additional $15,000 to get rolla. Don expect interior to be nice & chiow. Don expect the engine to be like rolla. It is just a drivable and decent car. After some mods. maybe you are surprise with its performance. Touchwood! I have no problem with that car at all. Well, up to each individual! Let your money do the talking! Why not visit other forum like HMCC (Hyundai motor car club) Listen more and it's always good for our knowledge. I am learning as well. Cheers! Anewtech Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Author Share July 4, 2003 Hktan, so what mod had you done that make your Accent's performance surprise you? I also visit HMCC forum..but there didn't talk much stuffs leh! Same as you, I'm also learning.
Hktan Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 Just some simple & easy mods currently. Shame to bring up. Will learn more from the others. Can feel slight improvement here & there. What I can said is don expect Accent to mod like a EVO or SiR eating machine. All gains is bit by bit. Very minimal gains should be expected. Knowledge gains is much valuable than bhp gain. Anewtech Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Author Share July 4, 2003 Of cos I dunn it to perform like a EVO or SiR, do i assume you do some grounding and spark plug? what size of rim you changed to? the original 13" is too small to have a steady ride, am i correct? Hktan Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 U relax first. Get your car first. Read the related thread and decide what u want your car to be.
Wahlao Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 Hi all, I've booked a new Hyundai Accent 2003, going for COE bidding this coming Monday. I recall an article earlier this year in either Torque or Motoring where they compared 3 cars - Hyundai Accent, Suzuki Liana & Toyota Vios (at least I remember it's this 3). If u can find it go read it, it was a rather unbiased review & Accent does have it's strong points The eventual "winner" was the Liana though
Accenture Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 yeap I read the article too. Liana won because it is more "well rounded" in all areas....Ha ha
Wahlao Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 definitely "well rounded"
S2P2 Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 wah....dun like that leh....E36 drives a saab lah anyway, if its what you like, your money, then do what you want. Like Mike will say, singapore buy any car also lose money what
E36UDM Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 Ya E36UDM, you're right, one of my friend just told me right in my face that Accent's resale value not good. Anyway, me getting the 1.5 auto lar...singapore no 1.6 version leh...although the ever changing Hyundai(SG) site in these few days did says 1.6 engine. So what make you say it's valve for money...urs the 2003 Accent? Did you do any mods here and there...share leh
E36UDM Neutral Newbie July 4, 2003 Share July 4, 2003 Did drive my friends 1.3 manual before and was surprised with it. Subsequently did check out the 1.5l and indeed driveability Too bad the resale due to the stigma of its origins. Korean cars design, reliability and performance are getting better and gives Jap cars run for their money. As for mods by now you should know the basic mod will be the K&N air filter, spark plugs, cables and grounding. Try doing in one at a time to feel the difference Do join us for meetups to discuss further. Cheers ↡ Advertisement
