Butcher_hoe Neutral Newbie October 9, 2009 Share October 9, 2009 Guys, I will be driving my EP70 up to Tanjung Leman Jetty (Somewhere in Southern Malaysia, if my bearings are right ) Estimated travelling distance is about 220km starting from my place in Sengkang. Could you guys give me advise on what to check on before embarking on a drive like this? These are the following that I've thought of so far: 1) Tyre health 2) Tyre pressure 3) Battery life 4) Footbrake 5) Handbrake 6) Engine Oil Level I am planning to send my Lao Chio Bu in to my mech for a simple servicing before going off, any advise as to what I should specifically tell my mech to check for? ↡ Advertisement Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Kyojin 1st Gear October 9, 2009 Share October 9, 2009 radiator fluid - not just in the reservoir. make sure you open the radiator cap when the engine is cold to make sure that the level is almost near the neck fan belts - make sure they are in good shape and tight gear box fluid - shouldn't be an issue if there are no signs of leak. spare tyre - make sure your spare tyre is there and it's in proper condition and tyre pressure. at the same time check your change kit (jack, wrench). also make your sure wrench fits your lug nuts! previous owners might have changed lug nut size or bought special locking nuts. if you don't have the correct tool/size, you'd be screwed too. lights - ensure all your bulbs are working too bring a big bottle of water (4 litres bottle), some spare engine oil. bring phone numbers of local tow truck. I suggest Automobile Association of Malaysia 1800 880 808 or 03 2161 080. They may be slightly more expensive, but they are said to be reliable (it's the AA after all). Butcher_hoe Neutral Newbie October 9, 2009 Author Share October 9, 2009 Yea StarletGT, you got it right, I'm going fishing Past few trips, I've always been driving my kaki's car to Tanjung Leman Jetty, drove a Toyota Corolla and a Volks Beatle up before. Pretty smooth ride with not much of traffic jams.... But this will be the first time I'm driving my Lao Chio Bu up, gota take good care of her and make sure that she's in tip top condition before bringing her out on a long run...I treat her well and I'm sure my tender loving care will be reciprocated As for radiator fluid, so far all this while I've been pouring just tap water...hmmm, think it'll be safe to bring this to my mech's attention. And finally!..am going in to JB later to fix up my new car seat covers, then my interior 'makeover' would be completed Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I just did my servicing last Sunday, things were all fine...brakes, radiator, battery etc...things like all of these were fine. After the servicing, I allowed my Lao Chio Bu to run on idle for 15-20 mins and had a chat with my mech...turns out later, when I was about to leave, my mech noticed that there was a small pool of oil underneath my Lao Chio Bu.... She didn't leaked through out the servicing, when the whole thing was over, she started to leak Gota leave her with my mech tonight Think about it again, good thing these things happened before my trip..don't dare to imagine if I had to deal with these problems halfway through my drive up to Tanjung Leman..phewww..... Butcher_hoe Neutral Newbie October 12, 2009 Author Share October 12, 2009 hahaah no lar, my Lao Chio Bu doesn't use coolant, she's running on pure tap water. My mech advised that all these years, she has been running on pure tap water, to suddenly introduce coolant into it may not be a good idea. Think I'll share with you guys what happened to me on Saturday.... Saturday was a nightmare but turned out that I realised how good it is and how important your mechanics can be..they can be a real life saviour in the most unexpected situations. I went into JB to get my new car seat covers fitted. Everything went well and I went on for a car wash and petrol top up. When I reached the petrol station after the car wash, just before I was about to switch off the engine, the radio went dead before anything else.... smoke started to emit between my speedometer and steering wheel...I kenna stun..my friend also kenna stun... I kan cheong spider liao, switched off the engine and stunned for a while more.....then moved on to refuel and pushed my vehicle to the side to avoid jamming up the pump kiosk...Began examining the problem with my friend but couldnt find the root cause (limited knowlege mah)... The moment I switch on the electricty, smoke would fill the car...tried again 20 mins later, this time, couldn't start the engine....lagi gan cheong spider...tio chua sai... Die, this time die, its 8.10pm in JB (opposite Metro Jaya), all the workshops are closed, this time die, have to stay in JB all the way till Sunday morning liao.....then my friend suggested that I call my mech to find out the possible cause and see if we can self-rectify. HENG AH!!..happen so that they just knocked off 30 mins ago and his worker was on the way back to JB.. Heng man, I contacted his worker and lagi more heng, he just happen to be at the causeway and he arrived at my breakdown spot in record time...just under 30mins..he checked out my problem and cut off the wire that was causing the problem....Heng Ah Heng Ah...can start engine liao..go drive back to Singapore..... He said that cutting off the wire, likely one of the gadgets that runs on electricity will not work..so we checked, ERP unit, radio, aircon, car alarm, lights...everything was working normally! We were puzzled.....anyways, we went back to Singapore after sending my Mech's worker back home... I spent a total of 16 hours in JB, from waiting for my car seats to dealing with this saga..but I still felt very very fortunate that my Mech's quick thinking saved me from all the inconvenience and $$$. On Sunday, went to get the wiring problem fixed up at serangoon garden's audio workshop..turns out that my car's previous owner did not remove the wiring proper for some handfree hp setup when he handed the car over to us. There was at least 1.5m to 2m of excess wire (hidden underneath the first layer carpet) that still has electricty running through them. The wires had melted badly and all the wires were in a melted mess. The workshop guys said 'You sibei heng lor..you got your mech's worker to help you rectify, if you continue driving, seriously, the compartment with all the wiring would have caught fire because the wires were not connected to a fuse but direct to your battery!'... Heng man..im still alive to share this exciting happening with you guys....... May because of this, after servicing yesterday...my Lao Chio Bu tio chua and started leaking liao Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Maybe I'll post a 'road trip report' for you guys when I'm back I just collected my Lao Chio Bu yesterday, everything is fixed...no longer leaking engine oil..but, found out later that 1) Horn's not working 2) When idling with headlights on, RPM would drop to 500 and the oil lamp warning light would flicker Going back to my mech again after work today...should take a short while I hope... Lately over the past month, I've been visiting the workshop pretty often for minor hiccups...lucky thing my mech doesn't charge me for every single minor repair..else I would be alot alot more poorer... Oil lamp warning light flickering maybe due to not enough engine oil or engine oil sensor spoiled. I checked my engine oil level last night and early this morning, its slight above the full mark. Anyways, I'm meeting my mech after work today to get them fixed up, shouldn't be too much of an issue.
