Madsumm 1st Gear May 20, 2010 Share May 20, 2010 Huh.. only using a very small sample data. Not relevant in terms of "overtaking" And, the sample is only taken in US.
Elfenstar 3rd Gear May 20, 2010 Share May 20, 2010 Huh.. only using a very small sample data. Not relevant in terms of "overtaking" And, the sample is only taken in US. Well if you look at it in perspective, a 20% increase in marketshare is not a small amount! Its an eventuality anyway. With apple only having one phone, and android having differing hardware versions to suit different users. Its simply a question of when rather than if. Like I said, its sample is irrelevant. 150,000 out of say, iPhone of 85mil sold worldwide. That is only less then 2%. How does that relate to a 20% increase? our of the 2% data? hahaaha BTW, I am no supporter of whatever, as long as it works for me I will jump ship. But the data used is really, pathetic to even begin with. Also, most buyers are BRAND-based selection then OS based selection at this moment. If they love Samsung, they will buy a Samsung phone, even though if its MS or Andriod or its own OS. Edited May 20, 2010 by Madsumm

Well the us is a good judge of how things may play out since phones for both OS's are launched there first. If you're just using NPD's survey then yes you're right. I wouldnt presume anything from it, HOWEVER, there are also the quantcast (using web analytics) and gartner (this is on a worldwide scale) research results too. So there are three different research companies that are saying the same thing.

Which finally betrays the problem with the Android phones. It is not a good platform to develop games in. Differing CPU, hardware etc. So the iPhone is actually a game console to the game developer. It is standardized like a game console. So don't get an Android phone if you weigh heavily into games.
Madsumm 1st Gear May 20, 2010 Share May 20, 2010 Well the us is a good judge of how things may play out since phones for both OS's are launched there first. So there are three different research companies that are saying the same thing. Sure, if people are still using OS for phones as a judge of its domination in the market. Most people on the street have absolutely no idea what their phones are running on in the first place. Things are evolving. Windows 7 mobile and upcoming iPhone 4G with OS4 among others (including Andriod 2.2). If you based on Gartner, which is again as biased as they can get. They are paid by the companies who they rate. Remember our recent CDO crisis? Our dear Standard & Poor took payment from banks to give their CDO junk AAA++++ ratings.. How's that for conflict of interest? Best to judge is really the availability of apps in each of these OS. These will be the decision factors. The ecosystem created by iPhone dev is similar to what google did for Android. But then, Google stamping on all people and places infringing privacies is not something I would take lightly. Who knows, your phone will transmit all your activities to Google. Who you call, what sites you visit..etc.

So don't get an Android phone if you weigh heavily into games. There's one more thing. Its harder to code for android as they don't take a pedagogical approach to teaching abt their developer tools, while Apple does. ↡ Advertisement
