MPVs/SUVs

Let me give you my experience.

Real experience and feedback from an actual owner and at times a pax

I also moved from sedan to Stream 2+ yrs ago. All stock except for strut bar and vkool

my model comes with 4 disc brakes

Wish/stream is like many say, mini MPV.

If you are looking into spacious cabin for all 7. Don't bother looking at these 2. CMI.

Alphard, Grand Voyager are the cars you need. Odessey, picnic still ok but lack space compare to those 2.

Stream/Wish Size. If you put 2 child seats (infant/toddler not boosters), You can't fit 2 back to back on the 2nd and 3rd row at the same time. If you put them side to side in the middle, there's no space for the adult.

End up one in front one in the middle.

Stream Drive: It's more fun to drive than a Sunny 1.6, Lancer EX 2.0 in terms of power delivery.

Engine more refined. Good torque at low end.

Handling is pretty close to the 2 sedans. I think the RSZ will be sweeter.

Bodyroll is quite comparable with a sedan (felt the same on the same bend at 90kmh)

Overall, I enjoy driving the stream more than those 2 cars.

Aircon is surprising good.

Solo drive - I set to 25 degree, fan speed 1/7. Economy mode

Last row at noon is ok even though no 2nd/3rd aircon blower.

Last row seats for hobbits? Not really. I'm 1.76m. Decent for me. You need to adjust mid row seats a bit

Cons

Frugal fuel consumption only if you do a lot of smooth highway. City driving? bye bye FC. my avg is 11km/l

Brakes could be a bit better.

irritating tok tok cut in and out sound.

KM servicing expensive. go to their webby and see price.

Electric assist steering takes a while to get used to.

mid row center seat no head rest, lap belt only

No car clock

If last row in used, 'boot space' just nice to squeeze in a compact stroller and nothing else.

Mid row is more for 2 mid-fat pax rather than 3 mid adults.

You need to ask yourself this.

Are you buying for form factor or practicality?

if you don't need to have 7 pax, go for SUV

actually i notice, choice of mpv in s'pore is fewer then other car category.

example:

option for big/coupe sedan, hm.., more then 10, with quite often release new version.

is it because if that car more expensive so the dealer get more profit?

some more, some brand not bring mpv type to s'pore.

example: vw, peugot, opel, etc

what they all bring here is the mini mpv (tourant, zafira, etc)

hope they can bring real MPV to s'pore.

Can anyone give their thoughts / advice on buying a used MPV,

We are looking to spend up to S$50,000 on a 3,4,5 year old car

We are a family of 4, have 2 children (8, 5) so the extra seats will not be used all the time but need extra seats for play dates, family visits, Malaysia etc . We are an expat family and plan to keep the car for up to 3 years.

The most important factors to us are reliability, comfort and security, as well as selling it on in 3 years time

We have had a look at these so far

Toyota Wish 1.8A

Toyota Picnic 2.0A

Honda Odyssey 2.4A

Honda CRV 2.0A

Mazda 5

Kia Carnival (Not Japanese) but it was on our short list and cheap in comparison,

Any others that we should consider

Sorry for adding this here but i can't post a new Topic yet <_<

if you're really concerned about initial cost price,

the Kia Carnival 2.5V6 is the way to go....

if you're concerned about style and image, get the Honda Odyssey.

for sheer space and practicality,

the Picnic 2.0L will do.

Forget about the Wish 1.8 though. It's rubbish in taking proper adults in comfort (which an MPV is all about anyway, if not get a Van)....

and your child at 8 will probably have a growth spurt within the next 3yrs....

so ya....

and if you're ferrying around your mates,

you can throw the Odyssey out of the window too, thanks to the low roof-line,

getting in and out of the car will be a hassle should your mates be more than 1.75m tall....

you also have to consider this too....

insurance for suvs are usually more higher than mpvs

not true, my honda CRV same insurance cost as altis

becoz seldom pple using SUV to cheong, so the ins is actually quite cheap compared to cars like civic
