hmmm... mine are all unpowered usb so far i don't need any powered ones... the problem is to pull 3 usb cables from my boot to front... (touch screen, usb port for thumb drive, controller (am using nostromo n52)

Hmmm for radio i'm using the std sony 1 din HU which makes the whole setup lying in an awkward position. Imagine squeezing 2 din screen with 1din radio +2din lcd . till now haven't find a good way to reposition them though... I have few frens who started out with me and all gave up after upgrading the car and family. [laugh]

hahahha .. i know what you mean ..

First i put the HU on the top

Then i try to put it in the drawer tray but it;s not deep enough.

Finally, i removed totally and put in a pre-amp now. For radio, I used a dvb-t, dab stick. Reception is really very dependent on area.

How about installing an Android tablet in our cars? Any ideas? :P

Technically.. should not be a problem.

But i'm not too sure about the power supply and how to power down the tablet when i shut off my engine or power up the tablet when i start my car.

But it could be a path to the future!

Under hot sun...How do you manage the heat generated?

There's fans on the processor and the casing have many holes. Besides, the atom does not generate a lot of heat. I guess it's the same as amplifers, you need air circulation. If you mount within a box, make sure you have fans. My carpc is mounted underseat, so air circulation is okay.

I make quarterly trips to KL\Genting and have not suffered any overheating problems in those 4-hour plus non-stop journeys.

Maybe an IPAD will kill off this whole CarPC thingy soon ;)

Not maybe ... it will!!

As soon as someone writes an app to gracefully turn off/on with car ignition, it'll be the way to go!

But main issue is still how to fit the 10.1 into the dashboard!

Guess that'll be the next phase to car computing.

Anyway, how's your car pc..? Interested in providing a write up of your install to the blog??

You can't turn it on with an app as the cpu will be shut down. However if you want to run your ipad with ignition, its as simple as wiring a momentary switch to your on button.

Mounting in the dash may be an issue, and only the 3G version can be used (as the wifi only doesnt have gps). There're also the issues of the ipad temp control which means if you park in the sun, you can't have music till the ipad cools down, and that you can't use it as a bluetooth speakerphone.

I think I read somewhere Ipad dash kits are already available for certain car models. So far my CarPc had been stable & I haven't done much for the past yr., only fiddle to get SQ perfection. Unfortunately, my quest for the perfect SQ through CarPC is still going nowhere. I guess I don't have to ears for audio tuning & I just thrown in the towel & got myself the MS-8 processor. Hopefully I can get the perfect SQ & stop meddlng with my car again. Haha...

My next few wkends wil be doing all my audio stuffs & setting up my brother's CarPC.

Also I'll get somehing to post on your blog, here's some of my old install pics. :

If i remember correctly, you are the guy with the llliput for sale right? Great job on your toyota wish i must say. One of these days i must be able to fabricate the dash like yours. A truly OEM look.

Ermm .. wat's the MS-8? Last time i heard i think you guys are into USB DAC stuff right?

Think you are using road runner font end? I tried but had quite a few problems... It always freezes on my rmvb videos with a "subscript 9" error... Googled and people say it's codec related (i'm using klite) .. so it's still back to centrafuse for me now.

So happy to see fellow CarPC drivers here in this thread. I just got my setup done and using for a month plus liao.. i am driving a Kia Forte and will put up my photos soon..

Just some questions, anyone of u using bluetooth OBD2 scanner in your car? For those using touchscreen panel, do u get the screen not responding when the car is too hot after parking.
