Dumb 4th Gear July 29, 2010 Share July 29, 2010 In Indonesia they probably not used to such proverbs. Moslty M'sia and SG have some common sayings. Makan angin is either malay or direct translation from chinese like mata which commonly used as a hokkien word to describe police. Saya mata to a taiwanese and they will huh!!! Jchuacl Clutched July 29, 2010 Share July 29, 2010 No. Bahasa Indonesia is easier. The usage of words for conversation is very informal as compared to Melayu, and they always include some words from Hokkien, Javanese. For eg, I in hokkien is pronounced as wa4. In Bahasa, it is pronounced gue(Jarkata) or gua. Normally in conversation, pple tend to use gambang(javanese) instead of mudah. The main problem is that the native speakers speak very fast and joining several words together, and hence it is quite hard to understand them initially. Also, once you are outside Jarkata, pple tend to include their local slang into the standard Bahasa which can be hard to understand. However, for formal written Bahasa Indonesia, it is quite tough. Try reading Kompas and you'll find many words that are never used in conversations. Not really. Bahasa Indonesia is more difficult. Conversational Malay is easy to pick up just like what the guys are doing here . Grammer not important. Regards,
Jchuacl Clutched July 29, 2010 Share July 29, 2010 It doesn't matter as it all depends on preference. Typically when indicating time, Bahasa will use jam whereas Melayu will use pukul. Another thing is that we always say goreng pisang, in Bahasa, it is pisang goreng. So the indon's way of clock is similar to spanish way
Jchuacl Clutched July 29, 2010 Share July 29, 2010 Should be macet. For kosong, it depends on the context. kopi kurang manis = kopi siew tai kurang pedas = less spicy/chili habis = finish , but indon says kosong. ikan kosong = ??? empty fish??? Fish sold out in indonesia macat = traffic jam
Jchuacl Clutched July 29, 2010 Share July 29, 2010 Some words are different eg. Dorong = tekan soalnya = karena bicara = cekap senin = isnin nol = kosong If the people were from outside Jarkata, then the way the words pronounced are different as well. For eg, hujan, jelek can be pronounced as ujan, elek in Java island. I would say it's around 30% different but it should not be too difficult to understand each other. I think Bahasa Indo and Melayu like too much difference ley.. I dont know the difference thou as i never learned Melayu b4. Anyone share? I know some like Sedikit and sikit. Uang n wang. I speak to my Malaysian friend in Indo they sometimes don't really understand some words or what i meant.
