Ha... I drove my IS250 for only 1.5 yr. No doubt it's a reliable car... Other than the Mark Levinson sound system, I think it's a very boring car... Hee.... Will you agree with me that your LGT was a more fun car to drive than the current IS250?

AGREE!!!!!! hahaha

Lexus and Toyota actually share the same undercarriage.

In Japan, Lexus is just Toyota. Not considered a premium brand.

Lexus only exist in Japan for a few years if I remember correctly. Before that, the Lexus cars are branded as Toyota.

Saying that Ferrari is a fiat, or Audi is a VW is not so much like saying Lexus is a Toyota. As mention before, Lexus is a division of Toyota, as Acura is a division of Honda, while Ferrai, Fiat, VW & Audi have different factories & Engineering centers run by different people.

Some people also think that alot of Lexus reject design or old design was recycle & end up on Toyota, like say the camry.

But at the end of the day, its the final ride quality that matters.

Lexus, a name coined by Toyota when they decided to sell Toyota in USA. Lexus means Let's export to US!

Both Toyota n Lexus are available in the US.... Toyota is the b&b car, n Lexus is the luxury car...

i would say that mark X is a good buy. it shares the same chasis as GS300 and similar engine to IS250. the engine has higher HP and torque compare to IS250 and the max torque comes as early as 3800rpm which is much better than IS250. the sound proofing and build quality is lexus like. looks wise is very subjective..IS250 looks nicer but the space is smaller compare to mark X. If u r looking for power, space, comfort and quietness. Mark X is definitely a good choice. That's y i gave up my accord Cl7 for mark X..

I am considering a 2nd hand lexus. Someone I know commended : "Why buy Lexus? still a toyota?! Like no change." Because I am driving a wish now.

Toyota is definitely not lexus but they sure can make good Lexus. Not only Corollas.

I have own 2 lexus gs300 and is250 both are very reliable car. GS300 good power and smooth engine travel 240 km/h in north south highway, very stable and don't feel like is 240km/h. Is250 very good handling, even my friend who drove c200 say mercede no match. Is250 can do very high speed cornering and is still very stable.

The price for servicing is very close to Toyota plus/minus less then $100, ok i am talking about entry level Lexus hor, don't think we can compare the GS or LS to any Toyota model BM carries.

My angmoh friend from U S say Lexus means status, Mercede rank second and bmw reliability is sucks.

If Lexus = Toyota, then

Audi = Volkswagen

All sama sama.

Audi worse ... also use VW engines, DSG transmission (renamed as S-Tronic), in addition to sharing similar parts bin.

VW's 4-Motion AWD is same same as Audi's Haldex-based quattro - for their transversely-mounted engine blocks.

Of course, Toyota created Lexus as a luxury brand to compete with other premium brands. Toyota is poisitoned as mainstream while Lexus is luxury.

If you feel that Lexus ride quality is same as Toyota, then Toyota epic fail already....

Btw, if you want excellent ride quality even with normal cars like Altis and vios (cabin size cannot change of course), its entirely possible. All you need is just to reinforce the chassis a little, put in massive amount of noise and vibration damping materials and stiffer suspension but tuned for ride comfort, change the chair cushions, add weights to make the car heavy etc.... Then you will get quiet and very comfortable ride.

If you rip out the carpet and covers on those luxury cars, you will notice the amount of dampening materials they used is far more than mainstream Jap cars.

It takes a lot of research and development to piece together a suitable combination of parts to produce the desired effect. Even if you spend a lot of money to try and make your Toyota become a Lexus, it might never become one, because the Toyota was never designed to optimize the use of the expensive parts in the first place.

Its not about who owns the company.

Its about who designs builds, assembles, inspects and services the cars.

There is a lot more cross over than most realise in design, parts sourcing and assembly amongst mnfs.

Lotus engineering group for example designed the suspension in the new GTR R35

There is a lot of cross over in assembly, for eg. Rover assembled Hondas for a while in the UK (badged as Hondas)

Many car manfs (and especially design studios) do contract work for other companies and most car companies have different 'brand names' for different markets or own other car companies.

Bottom line: what matters is who designed the car and who assembled it. Lexus have their own design and assembly facilities separate from Toyota. Of course many of their staff are ex Toyota and many of the components are sourced from Toyota.

Truth be told Lexus is little more than a brand name for Toyota.

I think Lexus is a failure in the sense that all over the world, people still think of it as a toyota.

The image is very important to sell cars. I think toyota should just pretend to sell off its lexus division to some third party japanese firm or investment firm, to make a clean break!

The negative thoughts of lexus=toyota is not doing it any good.

Lexus is good car, detailed engineering to perfection. I have sat and driven one before. Its way way ahead in terms of comfort and refinement compared to my last altis!!!

It is nothing got to do with toyota , do u know how successful is lexus with onlt 20 years os history , it rank 1st in lux. car in states for 11 years. People who buy lexus are those who already have a lot of complain with conti car and the buyer know what they want. You know nothing about lexus.

Why in singapore people pay such high price to buy lexus because they know it is good even after 10 years. Why Lexus in states is more expensive than mercede. people still buy.
