If i were to buy a car from an AD but it is a non guaranteed coe, is the success rate of getting the COE different for different ADs?

I heard that it is different, but dont know how true.

Also, if the rebate is at say 65k, does it mean the AD will bid only up to 65k?

1. Yes. Different Ad has different profit margin therefore, the amount they are going to bid is different. Some AD are more aggressive and they are willing to bid up to 7 to 10K above the latest COE price. While others try luck with lower bid and sometimes, they will use up all the 6 bids but is still unable to secure a COE for u. Some contract were rescind while others, customers might top up cash to continue with their bid.

2. Most importantly, we have to see where is the latest COE price before we can say where the AD will bid if the rebate is at 65K. For my case 7 mths ago, CAT A COE was at 38+K. Rebate was at 34K. The AD bid for me 45.7K. Of course, during that round, I secured mine at 40+K. Of course, during that time, there were many complains in this forum that the AD bid for them near the rebate value that is why they did not secure the COE.

It is true that different ADs got different way of working on that. Most of the time, the rebate is min 3-4k$ lower than the COE at the time of booking car. Generally, most of the ADs are willing to bid at least up to the existing COE. Contis have lot of margin and they get you in first attempt even if COE is more than the prevailing.

Should be safer with AD than parallel importer

Again it depends on AD and parallel importer. Most of the time, the PI offer guranteed COE just to clear the stock.

Guaranteed COE from PI works only when the COE doesn't spike up. I know of two scenarios

where the PI default on the guaranteed COE. Once in 2009, whent he CAT B COE spike from ard 5k to 19K

and the other one was just last year, when the CAT B COE spike from 30+ to 70K. I Know one PI pays a few thousand dollar to his customers to rescind their contracts otherwise they cud have loss at least 20K per customer. Customer can either takes deposit plus some compensation or sue them. Majority LL chose the former.
