Strange HDB practice

Many HDB blocks are subject to maximum height controls due to proximity to airports.

HDB built the flats to the maximum height, hence there was no room for the lift motor room on top.

Newer lift models allow for motor room to be situated away from the top floor.

 

Last time.. ppl could accept walking a few vertical steps to their flat. Living in walkup flats was aceptable.

These days. due to aging population. concern for the handicapped, it is desirable to be able to roll a wheelchair from the carpark to the doorway.

 

It's not a question of poor planning then, but meeting increasingly higher expectations.

i still believe your reasoning about poor planning is wrong

 

they got demographic statistics

and know we are going the way japan is going

aging population

 

so the just dont communicate with each other department

so poor planning still

 

look at our ERP

by the way their salary are peg to the top earners in Singapore

it is a desgin flaw by HDB

why are we made to pay for this mistake they made

 

yup i have heard this side of the argument as well

but in the past, when folks were moving out of kampongs, this isnt an important thingy.

obviously that has changed now as we have progressed with time.

because the technology simply wasnt there or too costly to implement then.

Escalators have substantially higher operating costs as they are constantly moving.

Also, escalators do not cater to wheelchairs and prams.

It does cost more to stop at every floor but it does not take technology advancement to stop at every floor.

 

An elevator is not a complex system... basically added nos. of sensors are strategically place on each level for the lift to stop at each floor. Regardless of the nos. of stop, one elevator basically needs only 1 set of hoisting ropes, 1 set of counterweight, 1 motor, 1 electrical control system ie. one drive system, to operate.

 

With the above, am doubtful the increase in cost will be at least 10x more, as claimed.

 

Use a bit of initiative to think please. Technology advance allow you to cut down production and material cost to have lift at every floor. how is it done?? go use your brain and think why a TV cost 10K in the past only cause 2~3K now. the reason is not MIC.

Those days... lifts need a motor room at the top of the shaft. So if the lift goes to the 2nd highest flr, the highest flr serves as the motor room. Else they need to build a lift motor room at the roof and a staircase leading to the roof to access the motor rm. Brilliant idea at that time, but on hindsight.. not so smart after all.. if you were to look at old apartments with lifts (or elevators as the yanks call it) in New York.. they have lifts going to every single floor..

When micro$oft make windows, they leave behind plenty of holes, bugs and defects.

Then they make you pay to upgrade.

Never give customer a perfect product, bcoz there's no money to be made later on.
