You'll be surprised that nowadays, those major car rental companies don't really care about minor scratches and dents.

 

Rented a number of cars in Australia and New Zealand for the past few months from major car rental companies and it seems like all the employees were not diligent in identifying minor damages.

 

They pass you the key and off you go to find the vehicle yourself and identify if there are any other damages besides the ones already identified on the sheet they pass to you.

 

On average, I always found almost double the number of scratches and dents than those indicated.

 

For rental cars in US, from big companies like Hertz, Avis, they don't even bother doing damages verification. No damage is indicated on the paperwork. And when you return, you just park at the designated lot, go to the office and tell them your mileage and that's it. Except for major rental centers in the airports, where you drive into the garage and someone is there to process your return.
