i would feel at least 10 meters depending on the road condition. in the case of a bend, maybe further

You may want a longer distance if there is an offside flat tyre.

you put too far, people will wonder if the triangle was left there as a prank/forgotten then when they finally decide to filter in, it'll be too late already :o

I prefer to place a spare tyre aligned so that others would totally detour from that lane to avoid wheel mis-alignment after they hit the spare tyre.

According to Traffic Regulation...20 metres... [:p]

So 20 meters is the official answer!

Please don't put the cone/triangle right at your broken down car!

A bike rear ended my car on CNY eve. I placed it 1 lamp post away.

I feel 20m too near as drivers tend to drive too fast nowadays on non-express way roads.

He was delivering Ang Pow or looking for one? [:p] At 70km/H 20M is not enough distance for many motorists to detour/brake to stop.

Agreed. These kind of people are the most dumb. Stand right behind the vehicle to wave off oncoming traffic. For what? Wind down window ask them 'Eh, you Ironman ah?'

If not breakdown sign, just put some bucket, boxes, etc behind the car. Stand there for what?

Robo-cop [:p]

Also rain or shine, do not be sitting duck inside the breakdown car. [sweatdrop]

Actually, should change to putting flashing lights on the boot. :D

Safer for the driver, who doesn't have to run 20m behind to put the triangle, and to retrieve it.

And drivers see the flashing lights much earlier too.

No lah, he was unlucky, 2 idiotic drivers were stationary on the left lane (about 30m from the bust stop) so vehicles had to filter left to avoid them.

The bike was filtering to my lane (2nd lane) but the car in front of me stop abruptly so I stopped as well but the biker sibei sway cos it happened just as he was filtering and probably had no time to react as he just completed the filter and clipped my left tail light.

And AMK Ave 6 is 3 lane with a lot of speeding cars. I walked 1 lamp post to place the triangle bec of the reason you posted.

Mercy-mercy. You trying to pull our legs?

Left lane = Lane 3?

If Lane 3 vehicle filter to the left to avoid them have to mount the road kerb? [:p]

If both cars in Lane 2 why stop abruptly? [:p]

If bike in Lane 1, why would he need to filter into Lane 2? [:p]

Stationary vehicle on lane 3, bike on lane 3 filtering RIGHT (my bad) to lane 2.

I was already in Lane 2. Car in front of me stop abruptly so I had to stop as well. Never got to find why that traffic in my lane stopped.

Many thanks for the clarification. So the motorcyclist failed to ride in an orderly manner. Thats all.

That was the TP's verbal comment after interviewing me and the biker.
