Commendable Road Courtesy by a young driver

Once I was in a taxi behind such a car. The taxi driver honked that car all the way.

If the front vehicle had no signal because it is proceeding ahead, then there is nothing wrong. However, if the front vehicle is making a turn and did not indicate his intention with his signal, while at the same time could not turn because the turning arrow is red which thereby obstruct rear vehicles from proceeding straight ahead, then it is not surprising that the cabby honked at him.

Hence, the thread to applaud such gesture of goodwill and courtesy. [thumbsup]

Have a nice day! [wave]

There are, really a lot of polite drivers, I'd seriously say, heavy vehicle drives, prime movers, cement trucks, these guys (most) will give way, and also gesture THANK YOU when you give way to them, and they DO signal in advance, unlike regular vehicle drivers.

It's the personal attitude thing. What goes around will come around.

It's often true that larger vehicles tend to give way to other vehicles when it is safe to do so and when they see the need to.

Sadly, some are simply incorrigible. [shakehead]

A lot of our idiots driver all got the stupid mentality that they are not wrong to stay @ 2nd lane since 2nd lane can go STRAIGHT or turn RIGHT..

Becos of this selfish thinking they had turn into non-courtesy driver..

That is why I always believe that I need to continue practising courteous, safe and considerate driving habits so that others can be encouraged to do so. Honestly, I do fail at times although it's not as often as it used to when I was a gungho young man. [thumbsdown]

In any case, I've nothing to lose but plenty to gain for such healthy driving habits. It makes more sense now that I am no longer a young driver and should have more common sense. :D

Have a nice day and drive safe! [wave]

Frankly, how long have I not see such a courtesy driver on the road, 10 years? or maybe more.

Well I meet countless time, too often when there are this 2nd lane that allows straight and right turn, so many time I saw the first vehicle didn't signal his intention to turn right. As when the traffic light turn green, he will just stop there. Due to heavy traffic on lane 3, you have no choice but to wait behind, when the 1st vehicle move off, your turn to stop at the red light, then you get horned by vehicle behind who wanted to turn right, f%^$.

So, the best way, avoid traveling on those lane where they allow straight and turn. You live a longer life.

Well, I just got my ride a few months back and compared to 10yrs ago when I am using my previous ride, I kind of feel that people are more polite now.

The other day, I was at Sim Ave, ard Kallang, turning left to go to KJE.

So, I keep left.

but once i turn, realised that the 2 left lane are for going up to PIE

and to go KJE, need to go to 3rd and 4th lane!

So, trying hard to filter in....

and a kind mini lorry driver slow down (till v slow) to let me cut in...

thanks man..

I raise a hand to say thanks. but i guess he may not see it since his ride is higher and from his driver seat, probably cant see my hand.

In some ways i agree with you but nowadays seems to have an increasing number of weird or idiot drivers too. [laugh]

Indeed cool to see a thread giving out bouquets to drivers instead of the usual rantings. I think we shd use this thread to recognise courteous drivers. I'll get the ball rolling....

I work in Newton and have to use the roundabout at newton circus every day [bigcry] I enter the roundabout from North Clemenceau Rd to get to Bt Timah Rd, no traffic lights so its always so hard to get in. When the traffic builds up, most drivers will block up the entire entrance even though there is a yellow box and we queueing up to get in have to LLST. But there are some drivers who will stop before the yellow box for us to go through, surprisingly many of them are SBS drivers.

But the best part is, sometimes i just have to raise my hand and some drivers actually slow down to let me in.

I guess, all you have to do is ask. =)

Above scenario is reason why drivers should attempt to indicate their intention well in advance so that our roads can flow more smoothly than it presently is with such common bad driving habits without using signals. Hence, my other thread:

Do you use your signal lights to indicate your intention?

Having one's indicator can help the rear vehicle to take the necessary action to avoid being an obstruction to other vehicles who can proceed in accordance to the traffic lights signal.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. [thumbsup]

Your post is a reaffirmation of MO's post no. 2. Whether the other driver saw your acknowlegement is secondary as such habit to gesticulate your appreciation will inevitably make you and the other driver feel good through such courtesy.

Thank you for supporting such thread and its purpose. It is indeed good to acknowledge another's road courtesy to encourage good driving habits.

Besides signalling, I will often raise my hand to request for courtesy from the other driver to allow me to filter and this works most of the time. It is true that all you have to do is to ask, [thumbsup] and more often than not, there will be a driver who will oblige the request.

At the same time, I will usually give way to buses which intend to move out from a bus stop regardless the existence of the mandatory sign as it is often difficult for large vehicles like buses to move out if sufficient space is not allowed, especially during peak period.

Have a nice day! [sunny]
