E052798 Neutral Newbie July 2, 2012 Share July 2, 2012 just to probe the market a little. How's being a tyre salesman like? is this a hot seat that see a new face every few months, or one that can reign for years? How's tyre sales volume going be like, since consumer don't exactly change tyres monthly? from an outsider point of view, this look like a slow moving goods industry. please correct me if i'm wrong. Appreciate all opinions given, any. ↡ Advertisement
Gee 1st Gear July 2, 2012 Share July 2, 2012 Perhaps that's why tires shop always tied with other stuff like batteries, A/C,Other services etc. Not just tires. Some perks like free N2 top up will keep customers coming back every now and then, not necessarily only when tire change.
SimonTan 2nd Gear July 2, 2012 Share July 2, 2012 Must be a good talker. Can talk untill the tyres can fly and grip like super glue. It can be hard to convince those old uncles who own the workshops/tyre shops to accept your tyres, if it's a new brand. Else if the brand is established already......how difficult can it be to be a tyre salesman? There is no way to increase tyre sales as the replacement rate is constant, depending on car populations. Unless the salesman can come up with a replacement scheme, like tyres best to replace every year! And owners of older Tyres can have discount if replacing new tyres.....something like upgrading of HP package. It might just work for those of us who loves to try new tyres often. Thanks for your deep thoughts on replacement schemes. I myself will like to see such a scheme too. These tyre companies are no new birds, i'm sure their business-man brain probably have come up with similar stuff... ("trade in"??)

Appreciate all opinions given, any. You need to be more specific. You want to sell tyres to tyre shop or direct end users? From what I know, the market is extremely saturated and cut throat. There are also independent players who import tyre from overseas by container load to compete with authorized distributor because it's cheaper over seas. To make a living out of it is difficult unless you can offer rims together where the margin is slightly higher than tyres.

Rustyz 5th Gear July 4, 2012 Share July 4, 2012 I spoke to a tyre distributor sale manager when I change tyre last dec, according to him there is no peak season for tyre sale, usually people see their tyre botak or there rim not swee anymore then they will change. If you talking abt those saleman that sit in shop wait for customer your rice bowl would depend on your coy policy, like the tyre shop that I go to offer 1 free tyre rotation. Some how from what you say is that the company you plan to work for has many saleman and very competitive My 2 cents
LoverofCar 6th Gear July 4, 2012 Share July 4, 2012 Suggest you hang around that ''jewellery'' shop at AMK that sell tyre.....the boss son can talk until dragon and phoneix all exist in the world....if you got half his skill level....tyre salesman is the job for you....
