Right now, it's my second favourite QT movie after Pulp Fiction. Its Best Picture Oscar nomination is well-deserved, but it's very unlikely it's going to win, since it's just way too polarising and "in-your-face" offensive. There is one (only one) QT movie that didn't have all these ingredients (at least not to the usual extent) - Jackie Brown. Some consider it underwhelming, but others consider it his true masterpiece. It's gonna be censored heavily when it comes to the cinemas here though. Still prefer Inglorious Basterds to Django though. Christoph Waltz - Geman-Austrian, I think. I really like IB, but two things let it down for me: 1) I simply couldn't suspend disbelief enough to fully immerse myself in the "alternative" timeline of such important historical events. 2) The pacing was off - it dragged quite badly in some places, e.g. the Shoshana/young Nazi officer scenes in her cinema. In contrast, Django's pacing was spot-on, IMO. Almost 3 hours, but never felt boring, or even slow-paced. It felt like QT wanted to end the sentence of a very serious speech with an exclamation mark...or a LOL...something like... "I just murdered an innocent man and his wife...oh yeah, I also raped the wife before killing her! LOL!" Just...weird... If I have a quibble with the movie, it was the way he chose to end it - everything from Schultz's very uncharacteristic loss of control onward. First I thought they were just going to walk out of there, then plan another raid to recover the money - but that wouldn't have fit in with the Brunnhilde/Siegfried parallel. Then I considered that Candie was going to play them out by holding on to the chick anyway. The way it was done just seemed so WTF - up to then, Schultz had seemed the soul of restraint - but I guess QT was going for that. Still, a minor quibble, all things considered. The escape from the mining company (including blowing up QT's cameo character) was OK. Wasn't that funny - the Klan scene was much, much funnier. They didn't let him off. He was almost castrated, but then they thought of a better (more sadistic) end for him - getting worked to death in the mines. He made his escape by playing on the greed of the white miners. Whether he ultimately gets away after the end (blowing up Candieland) is left unrevealed, but it's a safe bet that Django and Mrs Django will always be on the run as outlaws.
