Police arrested a 77-year-old man on Sunday afternoon for snatching a gold chain off a female victim at the void deck of a flat along Gangsa Road.

 

The suspect pounced on his victim from behind at about 8.35am on Sunday morning, and shouts from her caught the attention of two individuals nearby, who managed to note his appearance and the direction he ran off to.

 

Police arrested him in the same vicinity less than five hours later. He will be charged in court on Tuesday.

 

If convicted for snatch theft, the man faces a maximum jail term of seven years and may also be caned.

 

 

Men above 55 years old need not be caned. Thus max 7 years...but after good behaviour and eekends and PH...5 years he would be out...but 5 years jail at least he got food to eat

I have a relative who just came out from prison.

 

Told me he met one old man, 60 plus who is in jail for theft. Reason being is that he has no job, $ and dependents. So rather than suffer outside, he rather go into jail for food and lodging. Sounds weird but is true.

77 years old still can run so fast and snatch the chain off!

 

I would hire him as a security guard!

 

The security guards at my place all old old one, walk slow slow, some hunchbacked already.... i think if a robbery happened, they will be totally useless...
