Acemundo Supercharged September 4, 2003 Share September 4, 2003 for a moment i thought after removing batt -ve, the hvs -ve will do some work by being left there.......so that's why i was kinda confused so that means need not leave the -ve hvs there lah.....most important is to remove the -ve batt? any experts can confirm? ↡ Advertisement

Michel Neutral Newbie September 4, 2003 Share September 4, 2003 there's usually 2 clamps to the battery posts, the positive and the negative. the positive can be distinguished by a red rubber cap over the clamp.
Waipor Neutral Newbie September 4, 2003 Share September 4, 2003 just disconnect cable from either terminal, as long as circuit is broken, electrical supply is removed. remember to off engine first, else unplug both also no.
Acemundo Supercharged September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 do you still remember what colour of hvs connector is the -ve terminal? black or red?

Lester Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 (+) for red, (-) for black. If you plan to do a reset, just remove all connecting points to the negative terminal of your battery, leave it out for 5 to 20 mins taking care not to touch the loose piece on any metal bodies. Connect it back after that, your ecu have been reset. Applies only to vehicles that can do a ECU reset by breaking the circuit, by removing the connection to the battery. Mojoe Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 Errmm... how do you know whether your car can do an ECU reset by breaking the circuit? Can mine?
Lester Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 Yours can.
Mojoe Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 Thanks bro! Curious though.. earlier posts say to leave the -ve of HVS on the battery when resetting.. or is it like you said remove everything from the -ve of battery?
Lester Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 No harm from removing everything. The only hassle is to reset your radio channels and clock. No harm to remove even the HVS. Just make sure you dun short anything.

Flaser Neutral Newbie September 10, 2003 Share September 10, 2003 http://www.tmo.com/theory/myth/ecureset.htm Just wondering if there are real benefits in doing this? Was doing a search on the Net on this, some say useful, some say no use. The above article says resetting the ECU also remove any trouble-codes stored inside. In my car, removing the -ve terminal also resets the trip meter. In any case, the ECU is suppose to re-learn the new engine characteristics immediately with new mods put in right, since it it constantly monitoring all the various sensors? So it sounds like resetting ECU is only for the impatient people? p.s. Pls don't flame me.
Yoong Neutral Newbie September 11, 2003 Share September 11, 2003 IMHO not all ECU are learning type. so even if u reset, maynot do anything. i neber reset my ECU yet after HVS or for any other suff, but i notice the the adjustment kick in a day or two later. not only for HVS... Throttleb Neutral Newbie September 11, 2003 Author Share September 11, 2003 You are probably right abt the impatient people.. I resset to ensure that whatver magnets /etc that are dumped in are recognised by the sensors. For my last car, I know for sure that it learns the throttle and shift charcteristics of the last driver in 10 increemental steps. I just cannot wait to let it drive 4-500km before it learns my style. ↡ Advertisement
