Reset ECU and HVS

Greetings,

I have extract the following from another car forum long time ago..Hope it helps [:)]

PROCEDURE TO RESET ECU, TO QUICKLY RE-TRAIN AIR/FUEL RATIO CALCULATIONS:

1. Be sure you have your favorite fuel in the tank and running through the engine (after about 40 miles driving after a fill up if you changed grades or brand)

2. You may first try to use 87 Octane, unless you are running a high compression engine or you are at a very low hot altitude. This is what I was told.

3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and let the vehicle sit for 1 hour.

4. Reconnect the battery, start the car (don't even think of touching the gas!!).

5. Let it idle for at least ten to fifteen minutes, I usually let it idle for 20 to 30 min +.

6. Turn engine off, turn back on and go for a hard drive. Bounce it off redline once or twice in 1st and 2nd. After that, a wide mix of driving styles (fast, slow, medium, city and highway) is fine.

7. Over the next few weeks, the ECU will continue to learn, and any immediate drop in gas mileage (city driving) is

temporary and should improve to normal. Highway mileage doesn't seem to temporarily drop.

Regards [;)]

Guys, sorry if this is a stoopid question:

How to reset the ECU of a Hyundai Getz? I am hoping to reset the ECU and let it re-learn my driving pattern for maximum fuel comsumption efficiency. (I am not the original owner of the getz).

Thanks. flowerface.gif

Disconnect the negative(-)cable of the battery. Wait for 10 minutes then re-connect back. Start your car and try to drive around for an hour based on your style.... [:)]

Pl take note not all cars have these so call " learning" ability. Most of the Europeans and US and only luxury Japanese cars have them.

If you disconnect yr battery connections, and reconnect them again and start your engine, if your car behave abnormally and the engine RPM cannot be increased easily , yr car should have the " learning" ability computer chip ( know as " keep-alive chip")To allow the keep-alive chip to collect the driving data and shift the car driving mode to the nearest possible pre-programm mode , the car will have to be driven for at least for 300km.

How do I know if Getz have the learning capability?

Do i have to disconnect and then reconnect the battery connections to see if my car behave 'abnormally'?

Frankly most of the Asian cars including Japanese export models targeting at the mass market don't have such "learning" ability.

In that case, so it is doubtful that sometimes we can read from the forum is that after installing devices like E68 etc, after a few days there is no more the responsive 'effect' felt just after installation because the ECU has adjusted back the air/fuel ratio etc...or there isn't any effect/adjustment in the first place.
