Turbobrick Neutral Newbie February 6, 2002 Share February 6, 2002 Water injection is a system for reducing both inlet and combustion chamber temperatures and is most useful on cars with raised boost pressure (ie chipped). The intercooler allows the induction air to be cooled and made denser, but cannot cool the inside of the cylinder. As boost presuure is raised, cylinder temperatures rise and detonation can result - in extreme circumstances melted pistons can be the result. The most common way of cooling the cylinder is to inject an extra quantity of fuel ( ' fuel dumping' ) in addition to that required by the engine. This extra fuel does not burn but provides in cylinder cooling. Unfortunately this if not done properly is not good for outright power, is wasteful of fuel and can promote bore washing ( where the fuel strips oil from the cylinder wall, promotes wear of the piston rings and ultimately an engine rebuild is required). Water injection allows a small quantity of water (usually a water / methanol mix) to be injected at high pressure into the intake system before the throttle body. This then goes into the cyclinders and cools them, reducing the cylinder temperature and reducing the detonation risk. The system can be quite crude - eg it just injects a set quantity of water when the car comes on boost or it can be fully mapped using a separate control unit which allows the amount of water injected into the engine to be mapped to the engines requirements ↡ Advertisement
Gtech Neutral Newbie August 14, 2002 Share August 14, 2002 Hi all, I just return from UK last week, I was staying there for 8 months. I wanna tell you people that AQUAMIST is a damn good product!!! Yes, I am a racer there. I was driving an Evo 6. At first, I find this sxxt like sxxt cos I do not understand the good part of Aquamist. I felt that spraying water to the engine seemed stupid and weird! But my mechanic kept pushing and pushing this product to me and at last, I bought it. You know that agent in Singapore selling the Aquamist Sys. 1s at S$790 is DAMN cheap! I bought mine at
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie August 14, 2002 Share August 14, 2002 Hi Gtech, welcome to MCF! We are getting more well travelled members everyday! I agree that Aquamist is really beneficial especially for high boost turbo cars. Really helps lower the combustion temps and detonation.
