10.7V sounds abit low. maybe it's your car specific voltage ...

$60 for brake light switch also sound abit high. I got mine at $20 (VW part)if I am not wrong.

10.7V reading is a load test and not at static voltage. Load test is actually a loading simulation test ( wiht engine off ) subjecting the battery to a high discharge of more than 60 amp. This is carried out with a battery load meter and the test normally do not last more than 10 seconds. With temp compensation for the local ambient temp , 10.7v is acceptable. The lowest possible is about 9.6 volt.

Hope this helps

With the engine running, how much should it be since you mentioned that the load test in done with the engine off? Or is the load test never done with the engine running?

Supposed to try out on his car also. Want to see if it realy makes a lot of 'noise'. tongue.gif

With the engine running @ 2,500 rpm the reading should be about 13.8volt.More than 14.2 volt is overharging and overtime can seriouly damage the battery cells.

You can load up the charging system ( not battery ) by running the engine at 2,500rpm and then switch on the headlight to high beam, on the radio, air-con @ full blast and @ lowest temp. If the voltage reading is still 13.8v, that means your alternator is perfectly in good health

Hope this helps

I see. Well, the voltage was tested while the car was idling....air con off, lights off... so hope this is a valid test too.

No the test is not valid. If the battery is not isolated during the load test, what happen is the laternator will try to supplement the battery when it sense a drastic drop in voltage and ampere.
